    I got the SD257 for Christmas. :j

Will be reading through this thread when I get the time. I've already made a basic loaf with packet mix.

dont do like I/we did and put the whole container soaked in the sink:eek:....the little clip ring that holds the paddle in place will rust and rot if you do....You will be baking all kinds of loaves in no time and just remember to keep the yeast away from the salt you add because that would give you flatloaves or doughy ones. Well so far I've had great results. I've made a couple of packet mixes (that I got with the machine as extra presents!) which have turned out fine, but the recipes from the manual are superb.

I've normally got two loaves on the go. A sandwich loaf for sandwiches (!) and either brioche or spiced fruit loaf for eating with butter and jam at breakfast time.

I'm looking forward to making the tear and share picnic bread for taking to parties, and I'd like to make pizza dough next as well.

    It's fantastic.

Here is a funny thing (rolls eyes), I recently posted that my Panny was going all peculiar at six years old. Had four loaves of varying wierdness so bought myself the latest model.

Yesterday I was debating to tip or freecycle the old one when I thought I would give it one last try so I could advertise as faulty, when it turned out a superb loaf!!! Darned thing.

Going to hang on to it now. Will give it to my ds and fiancee when they move into their new flat.

You will love the results, I find it makes huge pizzas, not maybe as easy as bunging a ready made one in the oven, but then it never was meant to be

  • I have developed a liking for seeded bread , Wb'n K'mill type.
Can I ask, please? Does anyone do this in a BM? What seed mix do you use? Most important (considering the price of a BM and I am willing to pay for reliability - even for a panny:eek:) does it work out cheaper?

    Hi,
I've had my 'panny' for a couple of months now, but have only used a 'bread mix' in it so far, but would like to start making my own.
Can I ask which yeast you use, and where from?

I have made seeded bread in Panny, never used mix, just sunflower seeds

The problem long term is seeds / nuts are hard and over time [years not months] degrade the non stick finish

No idea on cost comparison as the seed / nut / raisin trials were jsut that as I normally have bog standard

My guess is, if you can find the seeds / nuts etc at a reasonable cost then it should be cheaper, or at least much better. The small packets from Asda etc are probably not good value, but I am unable to suggest alternative source, maybe Robert Graves or local health shop?

I use Asda or Morrison's own, I have found any quick yeast does the job

You can use fresh as I have, it can be scrounged from likes of Asda if lucky [mine is now behind a bread wall]

But if in doubt, and as you are, a first timer, splurge out on Allinson's or Hovis, then try another brand once you are happy and confident with results
