Sorry dont know about croissants...but wanted to ask is it better to make cakes in the BM ? What's better about it ? Do they always turn out ? What works and what doesnt ?
There. Enough questions to last us all a week !

I have tried making the spicy fruit loaf in the bread maker and it came out lovely. Not tried any other cakes yet I am afraid. I guess maybe one advantage of using the BM to bake cakes is that depending on what oven you have the BM may regulate the temperature better? Good luck, let us know how they go as I keep meaning to try cakes and not gotten around to it yet!

Hi Ive had my breadmaker years, it got dumped in the back of my cubbard and I fished it out 2 weeks ago. Ive been inspired to get it out after reading posts on here. Ive been using bread mixes, not yet confident enough to mix my own. Anybody advise who has the best mix? So far Tesco crusty has been my fave. Is it cheaper to buy flower and yeast? What kind of cakes can be made in it?Thanks in advance for any advice, Jane

I do not use bread mixes so can't comment on them, but one would imagine that it is cheaper to buy flour and yeast. Give it a go it is surprisingly easy, instead of dropping in the bread mix you drop in flour and yeast! Good luck!

    Hi,
I too have just fished my breadmaker out of the wardrobe and flour out of the cupboard. My question is it it has a useby date of 08.08 !!! I dint normally worry about flour etc when baking but not sure re bread making. Do you think it ok to use and produce good result. I dont want to throw it away. I cant imagine people in third world countries would and that it would make perfectly ok bread. Wondered what others thought?
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Croissant update: They came out lovely! Was a little confused by the rolling/folding/buttering stage but in the end they worked! Took about 4 hours to make so not sure it is worth the effort very often, but definitely worth trying one day....

I got my SD255 about 2 weeks ago and use Sainsbury's bread flour and their own fast acting yeast in packets. The loafs are fantastic and I just *love* the bacon and cheese loaf!

Is it right that when the trap door opens to let ingredients in it doesn't go back?

The door drops, the ingredients fall into the dough. At the end of the cycle the whole part with the door comes out of the lid for cleaning. The fact that the door doesn't go back into place when it drops doesn't affect the quality of the bread.
