I have an SD253 (the model before yours ;) ). I think the raisin dispenser is a design fault, as mine stopped working properly pretty quickly after I bought it  I no shove seeds, fruit, nuts in at the start, and have no problems with that - that's what I'd advise you to try :D

I'll add this to the main Panasonic BM thread later to keep ideas together.

I was looking all over the place for opinions on the gingerbread and couldn't find any. Just thought I'd post to say I made it and it is delicious. It gets very moist in storage. I think I will follow the posts here and make it without lining the bread pan next time, though. But anyway, I'd definitely recommend it.

Just a word of warning. I baked a 100% rye loaf using this flour and produced an inedible brick! Then I mixed it with white flour and got an edible brick! The bird around here will eat very well for a couple of weeks:confused:

Just made my 1st loaf in my new Panasonic SD254 breadmaker, used 300g strong white tesco bread flour and 100g Dove Barleycorn Bread flour, turned out really good and tastes so much better than shop bought

We just received our sd255 bread maker from ebay (knew i should have gone to Amazon) and it appears to be faulty. My wife unpacked it, assembled it, correctly we think, added all the flour etc and it just won't operate. By that i mean the buttons work, the programme seems to be running but the kneading paddle doesn't operate at all., even after 20 minutres or so. I take it this isn't right?? Help please!! Any advice from other owners much appreciated!!!

Which programme are you using? On wholemeal programme, on my SD253, it rests for 60 mins first ;)

Do you have an instruction book  Mine tells you the timings for each step for each programme.

I also have the SD253 and most of the settings start with a rest period. This varies from 15 mins to 90 mins. Check your instruction booklet - there should hopefully be a table of settings and times for each part of the process. The kneading starts after this rest period.

You should see a 'rest' message on the display. (Bottom middle/right I think)?

As above, several recipes start with a rest, (fingers crossed!).
