I get free fresh yeast from Asda bakery. As a standby, I use Dove's Farm . It's about 99p for a sealed packet. It's much cheaper than sachets. It lasts for ages in a sealed container in the fridge. I use Lidl, Asda or Tesco flour. The only time I've had a problem was with Tesco flour a few months ago. I've used it since and it's been fine.
  • Every time I try and make a loaf of bread, it comes out with a flaky crust and the paddle is always stuck in the bottom.
I then have to fish it out but it looks as though it has gone through most of the baking cycle as the loaf has a dent in it where the paddle has been.
Making sandwiches is a nightmare cos it has a split through it.
What can I do to sort it out?
I am thinking of taking it back and getting a new one as it under guarantee.
    The bread is gorgeous though.

In the troubleshooting section of the booklet it says that adding a little more water will help with this.

I tend to leave my bread in the maker for 5-10 mins after finishing. I then shake the loaf out sideways rather than upside down - this seems to make it easier for the bread to come out and leave the paddle in the pan.

Anyone have a recipe for Nann bread in the SD255?
  • Hello happy Panny people!

After a year of breadmaking with a Morphy Richards that I got free from Freecycle, I've gone and treated myself to a Panny SD-254 (on special in Makro this week: £49.99+vat) :j
but I have just a couple of questions...
    1. Do you sieve the flour as you put it in or just throw it in (and does it really make any difference?)
    2. I used to make banana and walnut cake in the MR and I have to say that I'm a bit disapointed to see that you have to line the baking pan with parchment for baking cakes. Stupid question, but how do you do it? does anyone have any tricks or tips? alternatively, does anyone know if someone (like Lakeland?) sells ready made liners that I can buy? I don't fancylots of crinkles in the edges of my cakes and I'm not patient enough to fold it properly! :rotfl:

    many thanks,

My dad asked me to order him a Panny breadmaker from Amazon. It arrived at this house today and he has just rung to say that there seems to be a problem. I am miles away and he is 87 so I hate it when he gets upset about things not working. I wonder if anyone could help?

It is the new model but the one without the nut/raisin dispenser.

He tried to do a basic white medium loaf but says that the blade just whizzes round rather than pulsing as he would expect it to. The result was a soupy, paste like mess but he left it to see what happened on baking.

The result is a 1" deep solid loaf with a load of flour underneath it

He says the blade is very loose and rattles around on the spindle but insists he checked it was pushed down before starting.

He insists that he and his partner checked the ingredients together as they had a similar problem with their old Panny and that was why they had to replace it. They had been using it OK for over a year before starting to have a problem so they do know how to use it.

My initial thought is that they are doing something wrong but they insist they are not.

I have asked them to try again and to weigh everyhting VERY carefully.

Has anyone had a simialr problem? Could this be a known fault?

I would appreciate any comments which might help me help them.

Ive not long had my breadmaker and this did happen to me, just the once. I think it was just i had'nt pushed down the blade.
While it was going, it smelt lovely but turned out as you described.
Some of the top half of the 'loaf' i cut into chunks and ate with soup, the rest i gave to the birds and they seemed to enjoy it.

  • Maybe not just the paddle being loose, but maybe the tin is not sat right on the bits which make the padle turn round?

The thing is, it was turning, all the time in fact and quite fast. Not the normal pulse type motion you would expect to get.

when you put the bread pan into the panny you need to put in in and then turn the pan just slightly to the right until it wont turn anymore, maybe they didnt do that??
