i had this happen to me once with the panny (flat dense bread) and it was out of date yeast, so get him to check that the yeast isnt out of date or really old.
with regards to the blade spinning, as other posters have said it does sound like either it or the actual pan arent put in properly - is it very different from his old panny?
how did he know it was spinning all the time? if he was opening it constantly this may have caused a problem? although i think it causes more of a problem when the bread is actually cooking, but they do recommened that you dont open it. when my panny starts a bread cycle it thrashes about on the worktop quite wildly, so i would have assumed at the start the paddle would go quite fast, then pulse later at the kneading stage?
fingers crossed he gets it sorted - its horrible buying an expensive piece of electrical equipment and it not working properly!!

Thanks all of you.
I am going to ring him in the morning and talk him through the process and see how it goes for another try.
I love the fact that at 87 he is still keen to do things like this and so want things to work out for him.. He has lots of enthusiasm but not a lot of patience.Thank you for this site :jNow OH and I are both retired, MSE is a Godsend0 -

1.I just chuck it in! Always get great loaves!
2. Havent a clue! I'd try it without, afterall you dont line it for a loaf...but then again...
WinkyRight now I'm having amnesia and deja- vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before0 -
I just tip the flour in my panny and never have a problem, always a nice loaf.
I also never line the tin for cakes. I did it the first time and then had problems peeling the paper off.
I love the panny tin, wish all my baking tins were as non stick as the panny is.Kind Regards

Got a Panasonic SD255 yesterday and am cooking some white bread at the moment. Can't wait to see if the bread is better than what I buy in the shops.
I got some Tesco Strong Brown Flour - is this the same as wholemeal?
I'm an 18 year old lad - my mates are into going out drinking and I'm baking bread. :rotfl:Maybe I can cure their hangovers with tasty bread.0 -

Hello Panny experts!
I have just made dough in my Panasonic SD255. I followed the recipe for soft rolls/baps and having just taken the dough out it's not at all what I expected and I think it's gone wrong! It has a texture like sof chewed up chewing gum. I tried to remove some and it just stuck to my fingers. Not at all like bread dough.
What have I done wrong? I have no idea how I'm even going to get it out of the tin!

I would love to get a Panni and have read through this whole thread which has been very helpful indeed!
My question is about wheat-free bread. Does anyone use Dove's Farm gluten free bread flour? Any success? My non-wheat bread is soooo expensive and goes off quickly that I would love to be able to make fresh loaves that I can eat. Any suggestions please?Penny0 -
I seem to have lost the 'normal' mixing blade for my SD255. Is it okay to use the rye blade for a standard white loaf whilst I try to source a replacement. Thank you!?!Toxic & Tired - Starting 2010 afresh :beer:0

I bought a Panasonic 255 a few months ago, and we haven't bought a loaf of bread since, I love using it! Currently using Saisnbury's own brand flour and it seems to be working well so far. Next I am going to experiment with different amounts of sugar and salt as I feel like there is an awful lot going into the loaves, though I suspect less than the shop bought versions.0
