I'm fed up of my Panny 254.
Everytime I make a loaf the blooming blade is in the loaf and I have to dig it out causing an even bigger hole.
I have added more water but with no joy.
I am thinking of taking it back and getting another one.
After that moan, I must say that the bread is GORGEOUS.

The blade always stayed in the pan with my first Panny 255. Sadly that one developed a fault and had to go back. The new blade sticks in the loaf but, luckily, I forgot to return the original blade with the machine and that one stays in the pan. It looks as though it might be down to the blade whether it sticks in the bread or not!

Thank-you to lturneris40 for your reply about the gluten-free bread! That was very helpful , so I bit the bullet and bought a 255 :D

My first loaf was a Dove's Farm white loaf and it was delicious and fluffy and miles better than anything I've ever bought in the shops as gluten-free bread tends to be very dense in texture.

The next day it was drier (to be expected) but was great for slicing and toasting :T

My next loaf was a white loaf for the family (who can eat normal wheat flour) with sun-dried tomatoes and black olives. There was no recipe so I just added them at the beginning and it worked beautifully.

Have been using my Panasonic breadmaker for a while now but last dozen or so loaves are a bit too light, espec when we get to the end of a loaf it is falling apart, could be the flour as I have been using tesco or asda white bread flour as was unable to get the hovis or allinsons I usually buy? Haven't changed anything else at all, it is worth trying sadding more water, less sugar???? Tastes a bit dry too, espect after a day or so, not that it usually lasts that long!

I used to buy Doves Farm wholemeal flour at Asda, they stopped selling it about 3 months ago and I could not seem to find it anywhere else so I went onto Asda wholemeal because that was all they had. I never had a good loaf from then on, the yeastI was using was close to the sell by date so I tried some new yeast with the same failure. Adsa have now started selling Allison Strong Premium wholemeal flour an that has been a great success even with the close to date yeast. I have thrown the rest of my Asda flour in the bin.

Haven't had time to go through all the posts so sorry if this has been asked before. I have had my panny for a couple of months now and sometimes the bread turns out great and other times it doesn't rise. The wholemeal especially is very heavy and small. Two loaves out of the same packet of flour can vary? Don't know if this is a problem others have. Any suggestions please. I use Tescos flour.

  • Esther, are you putting the ingredients in the machine in their specified order? Hubby found he was getting bread of varying quality and it turned out he was just lobbing the ingredients in as he fancied. It was OK when he put it on immediately but if left on the timer produced the small, heavy bread that you describe because the yeast was getting activated too soon.

Yes, I'm putting them in the right order. The last loaf I made was on timer though so maybe that's the problem with that one because it was particularly bad. Still tasted nice though but tiny. Maybe I should try half and half again. Have had some go wrong even with white though. Will watch whether it's when it's on timer or not.

I had a problem with a white Allinson bread mix where I chose the wrong loaf size and it came out undercooked. Then I had the same problem with a mix I did with the right settings (just a normal white loaf).

Also that day my jam roly poly ended up more like a giant scone, and my scones...well the less said about them the better.

I put it down to it being Friday 13th and in the end made a nice margarita pizza at close to midnight - I wanted at least one success!
  • Has anyone made a cheese bread with Wholemeal flour? I see the recipe with white flour but not wholemeal. Wondered if you just swapped the flour if it would come out ok.

I've just read all 250 posts on this thread and wanted to say thank you for all the advice.

My order has been placed for my Pannasonic 255 breadmaker and I pick it up from my local Tesco tomorrow. I'll start with just a plain loaf and make some home made soup. Hopefully it will turn out ok. Wish me luck!!!
