I have found setting the Crust colour to Light, produces a more even risen fluffy loaf.

This has worked for the Brown and White large loaves done on the normal 4h setting.

Also, to increase the healthiness of the Brown loaf, I have been adding 25-30G of Julian Graves Omega 3 mix. Add it after the water.
  • i have a panny and use my kenwood slicer all the time , slicing loaf on its side fits fine .the rapid or longer bake loaf (which i find is a taller loaf) but cut effortlessly hth

Hayley, I bought the Cookworks slicer for about £30 at Argos and it's great for cutting bread, even large loaves.

Having had a Morphy Richards fastbake breadmaker for the last year and a bit, and having had it replaced several times, now that it is out of warrenty it's broken down again. Needless to say, I'm not replacing it with another Morphy Richards. I want a Panasonic SD254. My question is: does anybody use the Kenwood electric slicer to cut these loaves or is the bread too big to fit through it? The Morphy richards tended to bake it's bread vertically so size was never an issue, but I wondered if anyone's had any luck cutting the Panny loaf with the slicer?

    Thanks

Our Panny SD-252 has been working well and reliably for a good long time. We mostly use it to make large Doves Farm organic white loaves. Three loaves ago the bread cooked but only came half way up the pan and there seemed to be some unmixed flour at the edges, the next loaf was absolutely fine (same flour, same yeast), then the last loaf came out flat again. We've been careful that the paddle is put on properly but are wondering if is disengaging itself during kneeding, or if it's something more serious like the motor going.

Has anyone encountered this sort of problem (and solved it!)?

It's been such a good machine that I'd buy another one if I had to but I really don't have the spare cash at the moment so am praying it's fixable.

    Many thanks

You can download the manual and recipes here http://support.panasonic.co.nz/manuals.asp

I bought a 2nd hand one a while ago without manual and recipes and managed to find this link then!

In my last bm, I could make a great loaf using value flour. I've never had good results using the panny. Since the price of strong flour has increased, can anyone post a good recipe using value flour that works for them.
    Many thanks

i've bought a SD254 (going to pick it up from tesco this afternoon), purchased mainly cause my OH is a coeliac and he usually gets his bread on prescription, the people in the chemist tho are so careless and his bread usually gets to us crushed/only suitable as breadcrumbs. So thought we'd start getting the bread mixes on prescription instead :)

I've just made some pizza dough in my SD254 which worked fine. I now want to bake some bread (this is about an hour afterwards) but the only button that is responding is the on/off. When I switch it on (it has a red light - is that normal?) the size/option/select etc buttons do not beep or respond.
    Does it need to reset?
I know that if you have baked before it needs to cool down and the TEMP thingy shows up on the display. Not the case here. The display just shows 4:00 BAKE XL etc.
Any help much appreciated. Have switched off at the wall - how long should I wait? Or is it knackered? Thanks!

It now has the POWER ALERT coming up on the display.

It is now working but it seems to need quite a break to start on a different program. Has anyone got any ideas how to avoid this problem??
