remind me, how did you lose this data in the first place, where was it, where was it copied to?
was it ever on the c: drive? is e an unencrypted usb flash drive?
http://www.recuva.com/
When he lost them they were in a folder he had created on his USB stick, he used the "Send To" function on right click to send to desktop, not realising that this does not move the files but simply creates a shortcut on the desktop, he then preceded to delete them from the usb stick
I'm wondering if he is scanning the usb is the encrypted container on it causing the crash.Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

if the encrypted container has overwritten the data area, then there is no way to get them back
Just no sure what is meant by.The USB is in but I'm scanning drive EHope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

Right, just a thought. I have one USB stick where Truecrypt seems to be installed correctly as a traveller disk and one where I may have messed-up; I'm not sure. The two disks don't seem to work the same way. Anyway, on this one, I have a small area outside the Truecrypt volume with a file in it called 'Unencrypted' and this area loads up when I insert the stick. So far so good, because that should happen, I think.
Now, if I bring up the Truecrypt interface, the USB shows, say as drive 'P.' If I try to load that though, I get nowhere. The password isn't recognised or anything; something which I found very worrying at first. I knew my files were in there, but I couldnt see them or load them.
To get the password to work, I have to click on 'Volumes,' which brings out the drop-down list, then choose 'Automount all device hosted volumes.' When I do that, the password box loads, I put in the password and, bingo, all the files in the volume are there. Until I worked that out I was lost as to how to get at them.
Please excuse my interfering if this is what you have been doing all along. I haven't read through all the posts as I've been outside doing manual labour all afternoon, so I may be talking drivel.. It's just that I suddenly remembered being puzzled by my 'lost' files some time ago.
I'll get back later about Acronis. Cooking now!0 -
I'm wondering if he is scanning the usb is the encrypted container on it causing the crash.
Running a scan unde C: does not show up the folders / files, that said, it crashes at 53% of the scan.
I've inserted my USB run a under drive E: as soon as the scan starts I can see my missing folders / files in the backgrounf, but once again, the scan crashes at 53%
I've nothing open whilst running the scan, I came out of all programmes except snapfiles whilst running a scan, but it's still crashing.
Hope that makes more sense to someone, other than me.Click here for Martins (MSE) advice on who to contact with Debt Issues - YOU HAVE NO REASON TO USE A FEE PAYING DEBT MANAGEMENT COMPANY- THEY CANNOT DO ANYMORE FOR YOU THAN THOSE LISTED IN MY LINK ABOVE.

What is drive E?
I put all my personal folders into that drive.
Since trying to set up truecrypt, I've used F: & G:, but the very first drive my documents were on was E: which is why thet are comming up under E:Click here for Martins (MSE) advice on who to contact with Debt Issues - YOU HAVE NO REASON TO USE A FEE PAYING DEBT MANAGEMENT COMPANY- THEY CANNOT DO ANYMORE FOR YOU THAN THOSE LISTED IN MY LINK ABOVE.

OK trade
I've paused my security and started a scan.
Just FYI the moment I click scan (E) at 1% of the scan, I can see all my missing folders / files, what if I click cancel on the scan at that stage, will I be able to access my missing folder / filesClick here for Martins (MSE) advice on who to contact with Debt Issues - YOU HAVE NO REASON TO USE A FEE PAYING DEBT MANAGEMENT COMPANY- THEY CANNOT DO ANYMORE FOR YOU THAN THOSE LISTED IN MY LINK ABOVE.

When I 1st (Very first time) of using the pen drive, that's what came up within "My Computer" showing the drive my memory stick was on.
I put all my personal folders into that drive.
Since trying to set up truecrypt, I've used F: & G:, but the very first drive my documents were on was E: which is why thet are comming up under E:
Yes ok, i understand, just trying to get a picture of your setup.
Generally with computers "A" is reserved or used to be for Floppy disc drive.
Can't remember why there's no "B", but that doesn't matter. The next drive windows will list is "C" which is usually the system drive, and from there on windows will assign letters of the alphabet in order to any drive it comes across.
I imagine you have an optical drive such as a dvd, this would likely be "D" drive, and then when you put your usb in windows assigns it with the next letter in the alphabet, which is "E"
The Truecrypt file we made, when it is mounted is seen by windows as a drive, although the program allows us to pick a drive letter for it.Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!
