Yeah start > search was in the hope that you actually had moved them onto your system, it will not list deleted files

You said you looked at the other program I posted a link to but couldn't understand it, does that mean you installed it on your system?
Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

Ok it looks like we may need to fire that up then if you have it installed.
When you launch the program it asks you to select a language which is self explanitory, then there is a screen that tells you what it does, just hit the red X and get rid of that

On the main screen, there are a series of Icons down the side, first click the top one if you hover you mouse over it says "Open Drive"

Yes, I'm on the laptop now, although the desktop is on, but I don't have those missing files / folders on here.

OH you have a laptop, sorry I missed this post, try downloading Loaners program to that one, it doesn't install anything so it doesn't make a mess. Unzip the loader

Plug your usb into it and try scanning it on there

trade, loaners post re that programme has been removed from this thread, hummmm, I noticed yesterday several posts within this thread keep being removed.

As for the USB, OK, I've plugged it into my laptop gone into my computer and the USB is showing under drive G:, which is the drive I tried transferring everything yesterday.

Yeah don't worry too much about what the drive letter is windows will assign the next available letter to a drive as it's attached, so your usb could have different letters on different computers depending on what is already in use.

I don't actually hold outmuch hope for getting them off the usb as truecrypts format could have overwritten them and your just seeing an old directory listing

Thx loaner, I've managed to get the folders now, but looks like the files within them have been deleted.

Ok was afraid of that, when files are deleted with windows delete command it simply removes the instructions for windows to find the file, in essence the file itself remains on the drive but windows sees it as empty space, it will stay there until overwritten which creating the encrypted container would have done

Then it will be back to the main PC to try the other program and see if we can find them on your C drive
