Then it will be back to the main PC to try the other program and see if we can find them on your C drive
OK trade, just fyi, running a scan on the USB whilst on the laptop, once again it crashed, which leads me to think the USB could well be corrupt.

On the main screen, there are a series of Icons down the side, first click the top one if you hover you mouse over it says "Open Drive"
    Would that be "Smart Recovery"

Sorry if this is mentioned previously but I couldn't go through the entire thread but for those who are deterred by the administrator privilages (or the lack of them) when it comes to using TrueCrypt look here:

    http://www.codeproject.com/KB/files/TCExplorer.aspx

It does have the minor limitation of not working with NTFS formatted (created) TrueCrypt containers but is otherwise invaluable. Always carry a copy on my USB drive.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????

Yes I see the confusion, I was talking about the program as I thought when you said you had looked and didn't understand it, that you had downloaded it and installed it. You were talking about the website. :)

Ok if you have downloaded File Recovery, you will need to install that program unfortunately then launch it.
When you launch the program it asks you to select a language which is self explanitory, then there is a screen that tells you what it does, just hit the red X and get rid of that

On the main screen, there are a series of Icons down the side, first click the top one if you hover you mouse over it says "Open Drive"
