Hello Trade
I had a look at that programme, I've no idea what I'm doing, as disappointed as I am, I'll have to reside myself to that fact, I've permanently lost my documents.Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

Hi Dave
I take it this is a different programme to Truecrypt?
Trouble is, I've lost all my important documents due to my own stupidity not understanding what I was doing  when following Tradetime's simple advice.
*I knew there was a reason why I spent so much paying PC world to do stuff for me, I wish I was 40 years younger*
If I done a system restore to yesterday, would that help find my lost documents? even though I've done a search with no luck.
Yes, it is different, and somewhat easier than Truecrypt to set up. The main problem with it is that the maximum container size is only 25mb in the free version(though you can make as many as you need.) I'd never put it on a USB till today, but even my wife is happy to use it on the computer, which is saying something! She knows how to click on the icon, wait till it loads and then how to do the password bit. This would be essential for her to retrieve bank details if I popped my clogs, as I'm like you, not exactly in my youth.....
I'm sorry to hear that you've mislaid your data. I have no expertise in that area. I accidentally deleted a whole set of digital photos which couldn't be replaced and, although I dug a whole lot of 'deleted' stuff out, they weren't there. We have all done things like that. Years ago, my wife was totally put off computers by spending several days putting our accounts into an early version of 'Quicken,' only to lose the lot somewhere. She still does our 'books' in books!
My next step is an external hard drive and a copy of Norton Save and Restore. For £100 it has to make sense.0 -

Ok have installed that program and had a look, possibly not the easiest to use, but I think I could have a go at talking you through a search for the lost files.
The one posted by Loaner in post #102 looks easier to use and definitely worth trying first as it is a portable app, (ie it doesn't need to be installed, the files simply extract to a folder and it works from there.Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

I had a look at that one loaner suggested, I clicked on "Unzip" then nothing happened, as you know, I've no idea what I'm doing, somethimes I think I'll give something a go, but I'm far to scared of messing up just like yesterday when I lost my files & folders, it kinda destroys my confidence, although the time you've taken is assisting me cannot be put into words.Click here for Martins (MSE) advice on who to contact with Debt Issues - YOU HAVE NO REASON TO USE A FEE PAYING DEBT MANAGEMENT COMPANY- THEY CANNOT DO ANYMORE FOR YOU THAN THOSE LISTED IN MY LINK ABOVE.

As Loaner says, when you unzip the file it creates a a folder called Restoration in your C drive, it should have popped up a box saying something to the effect of unzipped successfully.
Should be located here C:\RestorationHope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

In the first instance (since it is a much smaller drive) I would putin my USB drive and point it at that in the drop down menu under drives and just hit "Search deleted files".Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!
