    Hi Trade

when I insert my USB now I go to the drive allocated, open it up then click Truecrypt the UI opens, I highlight the drive (G) click mount, and a pop up message says: No drive selected - click "Select device or "Select File" to select a volume.

Trade, no worries if your busy, you've spent enough time with me, thanks for your assisatnce.
Ok this bit is easy your ok so far you highlighted "G" what you have done is told the program "When I open my file I want it to appear as "G-drive" in My Computer, now you need to point to the encrypted file

So you hit "Select File" on the panel next to the blank drop down menu, this will open a window to browse to your file, click it and select open or double click it, the file name will now appear next to the "Select File" button, now you click "Mount" and give the password.
Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

I've come out of it all, double clicked my original folder on the desktop and a message states: The item that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will not work properly.

Looks like I've lost all my personal documents.
This is a little trickier am not sure what you have done here, if you named the folder we can do a search for it by name, or wecan search for one of the files by name that was in it, using the desktop search, are you running XP by any chance?

    Yes trade, XP

Before doing anything earlier, to clear the pen drive, I saved everything to the desk top.

I know somewhere along the line Drive G: is involved as I selected it whilst going through the set up of truecrypt.

Now, drive G: is nowhere to be seen within "My Computer" also, I cannot safely remove the USB, it states to try later, I suspect because it's something to do with drive G: if any of that makes sense

I'm following you trade re the above :j OK, the "File name" is not appearing when I "Select File" thinking about it, I guess it's because I don't recall saving it to F:

Yes trade, that's how I managed to get into drive G:

When you advised me to clear my pen drive, I opened the drive containing certain folders, I put all the folders into a one "new folder" whilst still in the drive, then on that "New folder" I right clicked and > send to > desktop

That's ok, it would not be in "G drive" because this is the first time you have mounted it, you could not save it there untill the container was mounted, drive "G" only exists after you enter your password

Ok so we need to find your personal documents.
Initially, I cleared my USB as you adviced, I saved the folder to the desktop.
    What was this folder called?

Ok this could be bad, when you did this what did you do with the folder itself, because it would have still been there after clicking "send to desktop"

I had 4 folders within my USB pen drive, I put them all into a new folder called USB, sent it to the desktop, then in order to wipe the pen drive clear, I deleted them.

Errr, I don't recall emptying the recycle bin, however, I've looked in there, and those folders are not there
