I have a similar problem with my daughter. She has a gingham dress in summer and is already at the biggest size (age 14) I can find. She still has Year 6 to go.

I found some trousers that may fit

  • There is a company on line called - school wear for less. Compared to the prices we pay through school much cheaper ie: crew neck sweatshirt with logo £5.90. Our school is charging £7.50 but that is an offer will be £10 in 5 months time. Above company very approachable we are in Somerset, but they are able to link to schools website and parents can order direct.

It was my kids school summer farye yesterday and for the first time they ran a 2nd hand school uniform stall. I donated some cardis and summer dresses that DD had outgrown. She moved to Juniors this year and has a different uniform and I picked up a skirt and trousers (both M & S) a cardi, a school logo'd jumper and 2 gingham dresses. The whole lot cost me £3 and is in fab condition! School coats were being sold too for £3 each, they cost around £14 new.

My son starts Reception in September so needs a school uniform for the first time!

Problem with his new school, is that half the stuff they need has to have a logo on it! Plus the TWO school uniform shops near here don't stock this schools uniforms!! I had to pay out £50 for 2 sweatshirts, 5 polo shirts (1 new - £6.50, 4 second hand - £1 each), joggers, PE Shirt, PE Bag, Book Bag.

Still need - trousers, pe shorts, shoes, trainers, plimsolls. I'm getting all non-logo stuff from the cheapest place possible!!

I need to find out if he needs stationary! I guess for reception year he wont need that stuff? Otherwise thats more things to buy - pencil case, pens, pencils, rubbers, sharpener, ruler blah blah blah

He's unlikely to need stationery for reception ;)

That tends to start in year 3!

Second hand uniform sales are great, our infants regularly has them.

The juniors put out all the lost property at the start of the year and 2 teachers actually said to me, If you need something go and get it because otherwise they just end up putting it back in the same cupboard for years because no one ever claims any. I wasn't the only one told that either!

I have twin boys who start P1 in August. The school they will be attending has a school uniform with distinctive markings on the jumper (Navy blue with a thin red band, a thicker yellow bang and another thin grey band on the V neck).
Does anyone know where these sort of things can be bought online? I was hoping there was a site that asked you to enter the colours you wanted and WOOSHHH, 20-30 websites appeared advertising their wares & offering me my bespoke jumpers at a more realistic price than what we have to pay: £14.99 (x 2, 5 year old boys x dirty every day x Scottish winters = lots & lots of jumpers!)
Anyone know the answer to my prayers?

    Hey everyone,

Our DD starts primary in September, I was wondering what we will need to get her started. We missed the induction as the children had Chickenpox. I know the uniform is a Blue Sweater, Polo Shirt, Grey Trousers.

I was also wondering as DD is in age 2 Clothing. Does anyone know where to get "Suit" Trousers (Grey) Cheap. for her age?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks
  • hiya my dd starts in sept also! i think ive prob gone bit overboard on the uniform side, she's got 3 polo shirts 2 blouses and 4 white tshirts, 4 pinafores, 3 skirts, 4 cardigans and 1 trousers (though plan on getting 2 more for over winter!) as well as 5 pairs white socks and 2 grey tights. But as forst time school mum i'd rather have too much than too little!! only gotta get shoes now!

Not sure on the age 2, bless her thats dinky!!! i have a ds like that lol!! m&s seem to come up small as i bought dd age 5 blouses etc from there if thats any help, age 4 wouldnt last her long x x x
  • For me personally get enough tops to last you a week and a bit, just in case you have problems with washing machines, or you go away for a weekend, always good to know you have enough so you don't have a crisis on a Monday.

My son has worn two pairs of trousers and two pairs of shorts for the last two years, and has only just out grown them. So no need to go overboard on the other items.

Check to see if your school has a logo on their jumper, don't want to go buying jumpers to find you need the school logo one.

In terms of socks, they are forever getting lost in the washing machine, never to be found again, so go for a pack of totally matching patterns, or just grey, so you can always get a pair. I also got a couple of packs.

The tops need washing every day, but the trousers can survive a few days before needing to be cleaned.

My advice for all new mums at the school gates is children are ravenous when they get out of school and often very emotional, it has been a tiring day. So if you have a long walk, consider driving every other day on the way home, and ensure they have a drink and a snack the minute they get out, in the playground, so they are sufficiently revived. Probably best not to organise any after school activities either, as they will just want to 'be' when they are home.

PS - find out where your local school uniform stockist is. Often a very old fashioned shop or department store. Usually the one that supplies the private schools. There you will find uniform to fit from age 2 because that is the age a lot of children start at private school, they do locally to us, so you will find the small fitting sizes.

Another vote for M&S - DS is very skinny too - although he's mostly wearing age 3-4 clothes (at 4) he still has a lot of 2-3 clothes that still fit and almost all of his 3-4 trousers are adjustable waists on the tightest fitting. I recently went through his wardrobe and found a pair of 18-24mth trousers which still fit him!

I just bought his uniform from M&S and the age 4 trousers were miles too long & just fell off him, even age 3 needed tightening. They have very reasonable prices (£3.50 for a pair of trousers, £3.00 for 3 t-shirts or polo shirts) and were doing 3for2 on all school wear when I went in.
