Becles- def, buy age 3 when you see it. IME there's not much aroudn in that size so if you leave it someone else will grab it and it'll not be there on your return?
If she allowed to wear pinafore dresses though? That was the best uniform tip someone on here every gave me for DD. Doesn't matter about the waist band and they last ages just getting higher up the leg.:D The ones bought for starting reception stopped fitting my daughter in feb of yr 2.:rotfl:
OP- have you tried ebay. DS was big so I never had this problem, but other parents who have have only managed to find smaller sizes in independant shops here.0 -
I'd suggest boiling some tops in the machine then tumble drying them, my Son's stuff has definitely shrunk in the wash.0

I am also having htis problem with my daughter...I have seen lots of 2-3 boys uniform but for girls nowt!....bought 3-4 pinafores from tesco and the blue checked dresses but they were down to her ankles and looked ridiculous.
Mum bought a size 3 skirt from M&S and although it didnt fall down it looked silly being big around waist....she is also in 1.5-2..some even smaller depending on where we get them so looking has been stressful....someone did point me today to the mothercare website where they do now have the 2-3 blue dresses so will get 1 from there.
someone else also pointed out this website too...hope it helps

I use M&S - get the trousers with adjustable waists and put on smallest setting and hem the trouser bottoms."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
If she allowed to wear pinafore dresses though?
Yes she can wear pinafores or skirts.
The teacher said skirts are no good on little ones as they tend to just drop off!
She said pinafores are ok, but they have a massive outdoor play area with loads of climbing stuff and ride on toys. She said if the girls are ones who are likely to do a lot of climbing and rough and tumble play, trousers would be better and warmer in the cold, wet weather as they don't let the weather keep them in! With two older brothers, my daughter is definitely in that category :rotfl:Here I go again on my own....0 -
Thanks guys
I'll spend the next week or so having a look, we've got until September so hopefully we'll get what we need. He might even surprise us and have a growth spurt over the summer, he must be due one soon he's been the same weight for around 9 months now.0 -
The school summer (gingham) dresses at TU at sainsburys come up small I've found. The ones that have the zip fronts are shorter, the ones that button up the front are slightly longer but tie up at the back meaning you can fold the back in and 'nip it in' at the waist leaving them looking a little less swamped.
Also with pinafore dresses, they're not too long for size and if a polo shirt is under a pinafore dress then the fact that it's too big is less obvious.Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o

I am having real problems finding school uniform again this year for my daughter.Last year we sesorted to buying boys trousers as they fit better but really I would like to get her something to fit nicely.
She is not overweight at just 6.2 stones, just not standard size.8 years old but the height of an 11 year old,all measurments of an 11 year old except waist which is boyish and according to size charts of the major stores the waist size of a 16 year old(28").If I get something to fit on the waist it looks really untidy like she,s wearing baggy adults trousers tied at the waist.
Kids plus sizes dont do either as the waists for her height are way too big.
Is there anywhere to get made to measure kids clothes in the U.K.?
Its very upsetting for her not being able to get any trousers to fit as she thinks she must be fat but she isn,t."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -
I had this problem with my children.
I used to get there clothes from a stall on the local market, the local school uniform shop would do a free alteration service as long as you bought the trousers from there and also additions catalogue part of littlewoods would do a genourous sizes range which was good value and really good.
Hope this helps!0
