As an infant teacher I'm a big fan of parents that label everything!

The more labelling the better (lots of kids tend to have exactly the same lunch boxes and school bags etc).

  • In our school the children all get their homework in large A4 folders. I had to buy a 2nd school bag for ds as the little one he had was no good. In the end the bag was almost as big as he was, he was p1.

My children all have one of those light rain jackets that fold up in to a pocket. We leave it in their school bag just in case. You will need to get her a bag for her gym kit so she can leave it on her coat peg. I take it in on the Monday and home on the Friday to wash. No "where's my gym kit" panic.

Your dd will need a pencil case, pencils, erasers and a sharpener too. If you let her pick her own it is a great way to get her involved in getting ready esp if she is really nervous or excited. You will need a lunchbox if she is going to have packed lunches.

Tesco has some quite cheap clothes at the moment but I think 3 - 4 is the smallest size.
  • oh god they dont need pencils etc yet do they??? am sure my induction didnt cover that! I wouldnt see why she'd need them tbh as the reception is more play learning. I have got lunch bag etc ready too, and the school do bags for their books/letters home and a pe kit and bag set. just got her some pe pumps from m&s at the weekend, much better than the ones i used to wear lol that you'd struggle to get on, these have a velcro fastner and a pale pink trim! dd loved them and wants to wear them now, have had to hide them in her pe bag! best of all they were £3.50!

If you try looking on line there should be a list of needs on the school website, as you missed the induction.
  • You really don't need pencil kits, in fact teachers thoroughly encourage against it, too much competitiveness.

Why not email the school office, there is normally someone who goes in during the holidays and they might pick it up and respond.

5 tops.. they will all get worn in a week.. 3-4 sweatshirts/cardies and trousers/pinafores.
p.e kit and trainers.. without laces! .. in a bag
    bookbag

EVERYTHING needs to be named.. write it in obscure places as well as the obvious back of the neck so when someone tries nicking it you can say... well actually the name is also in 'this' place.. We had some scrote trying to steal DS3's coat once.. cheeky git pretended not to speak or understand english when it was taken out of her hand and a flea placed in her ear!.

write names in shoes too.. esp if you get clarks/startrite type shoes as half the class will have the same style/size.

Ours are allowed a bottle of water in the class too.. to improve concentration apparently...

Pencil cases etc are actively discouraged in our primary school.. less to be stolen/lost/argued over.

  • I always buy enough to last for a week, any more than that seems a bit of a waste to me.

As well as their packed lunch box and drinks bottle they have an extra drinks bottle each for their classroom as they're allowed to take a bottle of water in.

Our school won't allow kids to take in pencils or pencil cases as they say they cause too many arguments.

Good luck getting everything sorted

Definitely label everything but I was always told to get labels that have initials and surname, not full name. That came about due to a case of a child abduction near where I live - a child playing in a busy park had taken his jumper off and the abductor had seen it and was able to talk to the child by name

As long as you have uniform on the first day don't worry too much. Most reception children only do half days at first so set aside another half day during the first week to get other bits.

The teachers won't let your little one go without. I doubt any teacher would be mad enough to do PE on the first day with reception children anyway.
