Because they are sold inpairs and whilst some could cope with 4 I have found that we can't. When she was younger 3 polo shirts were fine, but now she is older she needs clean every day and I found with DS with 4 sometimes we were struggling on Friday.

REally my main point is why is there no middle ground on the one hand Asda are £3.50 a pair - but they don't last a full year and M&S are £15 for 2, but might last 2 years, but she will grow out of them. I just wanted to know if anyone found somewhere that did school shirts at about £8 - 10 for 2 that lasted a full academic year. Thanks to all those with suggestions as to shops that might do this.

It's not just the price andhow long it'll last.
Someof the cheaper ones are very see-through, and your little girl will be at the age where she will be growing into a lady?

I did buy some for my daughter when she was at school that were like that and she was upset at wearing them so I had to buy slightly thicker ones.

I think it's prob a bit too early for you to find any offers on school uniform clothing. I noticed when my DS moved to Junior school and I went searching for navy blue polo -shirts (not that easy to find!) I couldn't find stuff on sale in June late alone May. Frustrating for you when she needs them now. How many do you need to get her thru the 7 weeks left of term? I'd either manage or buy the bare min and stock up when the 'back to school' stuff comes out.

No the Asda ones are very good value, not a quibble it is the fact that they have looked pretty shot at for about 6 months.
I'm afraid I just let my lads get more and more tatty as the year went on, the stress of replacing uniform they had chewed (junior school) or covered in ink blots, glue and baked beans was just too high.

    But maybe girls care ...

BTW, for blazers I reckoned you couldn't beat BHS. One blazer did 3 years / 2 boys, and I COULD have passed it on to DS3 but it was a bit shiny by then. :D

I'm just glad the days of buying uniform are gone, and they all get their own clothes now, although DS3 still gives me the bill (and I'm not going to say what he's just spent on a dress shirt for his end of year ball ...)
Signature removed for peace of mind

Perfect opportunity to teach them how to handwash a school shirt! The M&S ones don't even need an iron if you give them a good shake and hang them up when they're wet ;)
  • i've been watching this with interest, although we have another year to go. The picture of the girl in the next webpage shows she has a button by the neck, indicating suitable for a tie, i just zoomed in and you could see it clearly.

I must admit to being atonished when a friend told me she'd spent over £70 on school uniform for her no.2 son for when he starts reception in sept and that's without shoes.

I'm considering saving now, its only a state primary school.

For the ones that my DD would have to have at M&S for her age, 6 cost £45!

You said she would like 3/4 sleeves. Tell her she will have to just wear ordinary sleeve shirts and if that is a problem you should get on the sewing machine and sort it. Failing that, stop whining! We all have to pay for uniforms its part and parcel of having kids .
  • No need to be so blunt, the op was asking for advice, not whining and at the top of this page, Martin requests we be nice to each other.
