What about prepaid tank of fuel?Is it worth getting, or not?

Probably - if you're going to definitely use a full tank. Otherwise it's a waste.

Well we will use whole tank, will do about 900 miles..Not sure if to book with Ebookers without fuel or with Auto Europe with fuel..:(
Need to go and check prices again, but think the different is about £10.
Which sounds very cheap for full tank in SUV, is it normal price? Not too sure about gas prices in US..

jammin is your booking with zero excess? Am I right to think that if my hire car gets crashed I will not pay anything with zero excess?

Jammin: When we pick up the car, they will swipe the credit card and hold about $500 on it.
Under what circumstances would they keep that money then, if we have zero excess?

What car hire company did you book through Ebookers? We will go with Dollar..

I'm not sure to be honest. Maybe it's a case of you pay the $500 (or part thereof) to the car rental company and claim the rest back from Ebookers (or their agent).

I went with Hertz. In case of any issues (especially after the rental when we're back home), Hertz are a worldwide company and have a customer service centre in Dublin. I'd prefer to be dealing with them than with, potentially, long distance calls to the US, time and culture difference etc etc.. but that's just me, thinking about what "might" happen. I'm sure Dollar will be fine.
  • If I decide to book another car which is going to be cheaper than paying the insurance for my 'Thomson' free car, can Thomson charge me and do I need to let them know I am going to book my own car?:)

They'd certainly keep it if you didn't return the car, or to cover things that aren't always covered on the insurance (windscreen, lights and tyres for example).

We've used a broker called Lynx Car Hire quite a lot recently. Their prices are really good, and their customer support team are second to none!
