Has anybody hired a car in Fuerterventura? We hired a minibus for 2 weeks in Lanzarote , this we done through my husbands work before we went and it was cheap however a bit ropey and not very well organised picking up and dropping off at airport. We only want a few days in the middle of our week in Calleta de fuste Fuerterventura so do not want to have to go all the way to airport to get it, rather have it dropped off or find an office near to where we stay.
Thought about doing it through Thompson while we were there but guess they hike the prices up.0 -

I hired a car in Fuerte in July, I used these http://www.payless.es/index_EN.htm
They were the cheapest, price includes full insurance, no stupid fuel policy just bring it back with the same amount of fuel, they are part of the cicar group who are the biggest car hire firm on all the islands believe. My vehicle and all the hundreds of other payless/cicar cars I seen were 1-2 years old it seemed. I hired it from the airport but you can have the car delivered to your hotel or I think there's an office in calleta. If you want anymore info feel free to send a pm.0 -
Hello,new member.
My wife and I plan to hire a car in Avignon. The problem we are coming up against is: I am the driver but have no credit card.My wife will pay with hers.
The hire company are saying that is ok but I must also show a credit card.
This was not a problem in Lanzarote.
The help is via a call centre so not sure how accurate it is.
Any ideas appreciated.0 -
Any tips on getting a big people carrier? Need one for six days in July going from Trieste to various parts of Croatia. Hoping to find somewhere local but any tips would go down a treat...

Had car hire booked through Europcar (via Easyjet) picking up from Malaga airport on 15 May for 1 week. Due to the ongoing problems with ash and flights from Glasgow recently being cancelled, have decided to cancel the car hire to avoid charges if we can't fly out. Can anyone recommend a car hire company at Malaga Airport that we could use on the day, not booking in advance, if we manage to fly out. Also, any that we should avoid, would also be helpful. Thanks.0

It would be pot luck trying the various hire car companies 'on the day'. You would probably end up paying the full 'rack rate' for a car if you turn up at the airport rental desk.
If you have holiday insurance this should cover the cost of cancellation ?
p.s. one thought might be to make a reservation over the phone when you're actually sitting in the departure lounge !!0 -
I will need to hire a car for 6 days in Bordeoux at the end of this month. Even when I tried auto holiday, recommended below the basic cost is still £213. Is this as cheap as I can get? Is the fact that I'm 26 making it more expensive?
Any suggestions would be appreciated as I have never hired a car before.
Thanks in advance

Hi, I hope someone can advice me, I have booked to go to Miami this year with Virgin Holidays for 4 weeks. They give one weeks car hire included in the price, I have paid £105 for the rest of my stay I told the I would get my own insurance but now I am worried as I am not too sure about all the different types of insurance out there. I have looked at insurance4carhire and am not sure if this is suffice or do I need more. If someone could please help, I would be very thankful.
Many thanks
P.S. the car rental is with Alamo0 -
One thing I have done last year is when booking with Avis if you are using the avis.co.uk site it will give you a slightly cheaper option to "pay now", or a higher rate to pay on the day. But if you go through avis.com it will give you the "pay now" price but you don't have to put in any credit card details etc to book a car, therefore I'd imagine it would be easier to cancel this at late notice? (although haven't had cause to yet....)0
