    Hi bramble,

There are some great suggestions for Old Style ways to relax that may help in this thread:

    Hi!

I am desperately saving money to move out of home in a few months and buy my own place but don't allow myself to do much because I am saving so hard. Just wondered if there are any other single peeps on the forum like me, living with the rents saving money - what do you do for fun on a budget?

I love to bake so am always baking for my friends, and thats cheap :)
But living at home restricts things somewhat - cant always have my friends over! And am trying to restrict the nights out!

    Thanks!

    M x
  • I go walking, just the cost of petrol or a bus ticket and a packed lunch. Maybe join a ramblers or walking group in your area, it's a great way to meet new people and you can share the cost of petrol.

Or have a film night - rent a film or watch one on the movie channels, make a big bowl of popcorn

There are often free museums and art exhibitions around

To coin a phrase "The best things in life are free" go bargain hunting at a car booty with small change, or get some items together from family and friends to sell at one, do it with a pal and you can have a right giggle people watching, do some volunteer work, there are lots of organisations that are screaming out for people to help, youth work, clubs, helping organise charity events, sounds like work, but you could have fun at the same time as doing something really rewarding. Take up a hobby apart from your baking, of course sometimes they need funding, but there are usually ways of reducing that.

Go walking, leaf kicking, foraging, do a Come Dine With Me style event over a month with some pals, so every weekend you take it in turns to host an evening, again, you could do this low budget by using old style recipes, play games like who am I, charades etc, sounds old fashioned but can be great fun. Get your pals together an go to a quiz night, make one pint of cider last the evening by drinking very slowly and you may even win the prize money at the end of the night:)

  • Go for walks, movie night, go to exhibitions or galleries, read, sew :D

I'll add this to the existing thread later :)

  • Geocaching! It's something we absolutely love and it's something we can do as a family, there is 6 of us, 4 children ranging between 9 and 1. It doesn't cost us anything although we did pay out initially for a GPS :j

In the summer we tie it in with camping as well so we get lots of cheap holidays all over the country :T

We are rarely ever bored and I now refuse to pay out for expensive zoo's, theme parks etc etc as my kids would much rather be out in the open air where there is no restrictions on them.

im into photography, so i find that gives me an excuse to go out get a cheap train ticket for a day trip etc,
if you look on your local council website they usually advertise free exhibitions etc even just going to your local bookstore, (usually have seats) pick a book spend an hour or so there

Orange do 2 for 1 on Wednesdays so do you or any of your friends have an Orange sim card?

I think the volunteering idea is great or even a part time job to help with the saving - it gets you out but you aren't spending.
  • I second orange wed, 2 for 1 cinema tickets and 2 for 1 pizza at pizza express with a free garlic bread or dough balls each. Means it's abt £10 each for 2 ppl for a night out :)
Also if u have a tesco clubcard you can get cinema tickets or free dvd rentals with points.
the Hi-ife card is great for bogof meals out and you can also get it with tesco points.
