  • I only clicked on this thread to see how far down I could scroll before seeing a rude answer! Obviously you people are all sweet and innocent, cos I know what the first thing to do that popped into my mind was!

ETA didn't have to scroll very far down on the exsiting thread!
  • Going for walks is free and at the moment plenty of blackberries /damsons /plums/ apples to forage. Then you can enjoy baking with them. You can always plan to explore the local area with friends and perhaps plan walks to have a drink at a pub.
Museums are often free and so are libraries
    There are free concerts around.
Can also go and watch local sports eg football, rugby or hockey

Not so long ago, I made a list of all the things that make me happiest and none of them really involved spending any money! I wish i'd discovered that earlier, when I think how much money I used to waste in pursuit of being happier, more glamorous, thinner, trendier, etc, etc. Oh well, better late than never!

  • Just been looking at the Geocache website - interesting.
being nosey so and so what sort of things do you find in the caches?

It looks like a fun thing to do. I just need to find a cheap GPS first ;) I never grew up around here and my OH wasn't much of an explorer when he was young so only takes me to obvious places. This looks like an excellent way to get to know my surroundings and I bet there's all sorts of wonderful foraging treasures to be found along the way :D

It varies, some are just a piece of paper and a pen/cil just to add your name to the list. Others are bigger so can hold little trinkets, the point being that you take one and replace it with something different.

The first time my son went he took a badge, toy soldier and foreign coin, and left a golf ball, different badge and something I forget. They're not especially exciting things usually and it's not meant to be a treasure hunt, the fun is just in finding it when you've been searching.

There are a few with tags in which you are meant to take and move to a different cache; they generally have a code on that you can track where it's been, they're the best ones to find!

I use my HTC smartphone and the bf uses his Iphone, they both have apps you can download and use the phones as the GPS. Probably not as accurate as the proper ones, but good enough for what we want for now.

I second pizza express & orange wednesdays, depending on what you eat and where the cinema is it can be as little as £5 each :D
Lots of pubs do 2 meals for £6, scream pubs do beer+burger £3.95 which is very popular amongst me and my friends, an almost weekly occurence!
Go round friends houses and yours when possible and have movie nights, girly nights, cook for each other. Could even hit the haberdashery/market and have a night doing up clothes. Make or do up some grotty old furnishings for when you move out :j

I think you should do a budget and allow an amount for "entertainment", whatever it is that you like to do. It might just be a small amount (ours as a family is £30) and there are 4 of us so instead of going out for dinner we go out for breakfast or sometimes get a takeaway pizza. I try to find ways to do it as cheaply as possible so that we can get more out of our money.

  • I get out on my bike, weather permitting - you can always check out freecycle to see if anyone is giving one away, or why not register and pop a wanted note on. I also do jigsaws which can be picked up quite reasonable at the charity shops. Cross stitch, knitting whilst keeping me busy, also end up as pressies. There are loads of other good things on here, one of which I'm sure will be right up your street.
I got there - I'm debt free and intend to stay that way. If I haven't got the cash, it doesn't get bought. It's as simple as that.
  • I am widowed so have had to find 'singly' things to do at times.if the weather is nice a stroll around the park is cheap and free.as a pensioner I can also use my bus pass for a ride out to a different town.today i went to bluewater and met my friend .We went to the cinema (I am disabled so have a Cinema's Exhibitors Ticket) which means I only have to buy one ticket for the two of us so the movie cost me £3.50.I use the libraries all the time , you can often get a DVD from there for about 50p on loan.My DGD can also get me DVD's from college on loan for free for a week.i knit for charity and make craft cards also for charity (my family give me all their cards after christmas and I re-adapt them.) look on your local council web-site on the 'things to do in the area' you will be suprised at what's on offer.if you are young enough and have some spare time why not volunteer to help run a 'brownie pack' they are always looking for 'brown owls' and you don't have to be clever at tying knots or anything. In fact volunteering for almost anything ,even if its just pushing a book trolley around your local hospital. Most hospitals have volunteering bueaux's and are desperate for any extra help.get to meet lots of folk as well as helping out.I sometimes just don't have enough hours in the day for all the things I would like to do.I am at present about to start my third year at my part-time history course at Uni.Life is for living so make the most of it i know I do, and I'm the wrong side of 60 with a clapped out hip and a dodgy right arm but I enjoy every day of my life to the full.
