We don't have a TV either and no internet connection at home - so you know I'm slacking at work when I post now! :rotfl: I can't say I miss the TV at all to be honest. We do watch DVDs on the computer sometimes, but most of the time we read, talk, play games (currently carcassonne is occupying most of our time), do craft things, bake or catch up on housework and paperwork. We have music on sometimes in the background. If I'm on my own I play computer games or knit. I honestly don't have time to watch TV, although I do miss having the net at home sometimes (normally when I want to find something out quickly
).
We're making Christmas decorations this evening:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -
I don't have my tv on a lot but there are a few programmes I would hate to miss like Greys anatomy, ER, at the moment Survivors, everybody loves raymond:o. We don't have sky but we do have a freeview recorder and I have about 20 hours of stuff recorded to catch up on
and a lot of Christmas tv on the timer;). My OH would happily get rid of the tv, I'd happily get rid of the internet and just go to use the facilities at the library once a week but both are staying because we can't agree to let one or the other go.
I love the tv because it gives me a chance to switch off mentally from my hectic life, I don't know if reading, knitting, games would have the same effect? Do they?0 -

They do, in fact I find reading, both fiction and non-fiction better than TV. I just enjoy it much more.
It's not that I dislike TV, although I find some of the programmes quite bad. I was just watching it less and less, and felt the quality has been going downhill. There are still some remaining good things on TV, but I rarely got around to watching them as I'm often out in the evenings. It was no longer worth the licence fee.0 -
my brain.
I am struggling to unwind after work, i find myself coming home and doing more work! I should be using the evening to focus on me and I'm not!
So i'd love to have some relaxing OS things to do of an evening that will help me chill out and go to bed.

Draw (imaginary) wiht your hand as you walk in through the door, change your routine,
Go for a shower first, Put some headphones on (after you get out that is, not while youre in there :rotfl:) to shut out the world, listen to 15 minutes of music, then have something to eat, do everyting you normally do but in a different order.
Do this for a week. no less than a week, see how you feel then.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Thanks guys! I always go for my bath the minute i'm in the door! I like to get it out the way!

do you mean you bring work home? or you cant switch off from work?
if you bring work home then dont do it in the areas you relax in! and have a set time to finish! oh and unless you are paid to do this - DONT bring work home!
if you cant switch off from work there are a couple of methods which may help.......
one - you say out loud as you come in - home now - time to relax. then you do something which switches your mind to home. cook perhaps or do a crossword, a bath, take dog for a walk. gardening? anything not related to work.
another method is stay in the car and write down a to do list for work tomorow. then leave it IN the car and promise yourself it will be dealt with in the morning. work stays in the car and doesnt come in the house!0 -

I don't get paid to work, but i bring stuff home - in fact i don't even briing it home it's stuff i can start from scratch and finish in the office - have you seen devil wears prada? my job is like that, if it doesn't get done i'm the one in the **** regardless of if i've phsyically had time to do it at work or not, which means that work is constantly on my mind.
I also can't switch off from work because even if i don't let myself do anything at home i still think about it!
I need to get out of the habit. unfortunately as OH is at work till 9pm soemtimes 11pm at night and he takes the dog with him, i'm home alone and struggle to find things to occupy my brain!Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500
