IB stopped due to NI mistake

If I had listened to the advice of my MP and the CAB, I wouldn't have had this reinstated, the general opinion was " well they can't be wrong can they?" ...
well they were, and sadly many others will be caught up in the same fiasco, if not now- later.
Ah right, I thought you meant someone on here!
I'd expect that response from some MPs but I'm surprised at the CAB - they should know the BA are not always right.0 -
Not at all bestpud, its been the internet that has helped me to carry on, with advice from various quarters, with what to do.
I also asked the Community Legal Service for advice and was basically told, "don't bother with this - if the credits arn't on your record its because you don't have them"..
wrong on so many levels from at least 4 agencies, I contacted an MP, the CAB, CSL and a local solicitor.
its over now thank goodness.0 -
You say all your DLA money goes to carers? Can you claw this £100 pw back as it is YOUR entitlement. Carers can claim CA.0

Hi Katye,
I am in the same position as you have just been. I have S.P.M.S. I was working before dx for 18 mnths and before that was paying voluntary contributions.
I applied for IB and it was refused because I was self employed before the job I had and only worked for 18mnths PAYE.
I receive DLA only and my partner works aswell as caring for me when he gets home. We cannot get carers allowance because he earns more than the maximum weekly wage allowed and that's that.
So, short of NI apparently, I was then told to pay 340 in shortfall and they would then give me IB.
Yeah right!
I tried again to get IB and they said I wouldn't even get an answer because I was told I was short of NI and to go back to full time work for 2 yrs.
I have no sight left side, am incontinent and unable to walk.
I had arranged to go to DIGNITAS on May 19th this yr but I cancelled. I have decided to do the deed at home instead.
Because I am of no value to this country now and basically been told to F off and die, that's what I'm going to do.
I hate this disease.
I'm so pleased for you and that you won your fight.so near yet so what.....0 -

There is a wealth of support and help out there for you.
Most people who post on here have to deal with the iniquities of the benefits system either personally or professionally and totally understand how un-enabling it can feel. It's a shared experience so you are not alone.
There are some excellent support groups online and you could maybe call someone like Samaritans for help if you can. We all have grim days and all our experience tells us that there will be brighter days too when we can be up for the fight. Keep going and you will come out on top in the end......... and don't forget to explore that option to pay the shortfall - it may seem impossible but borrowing the money could pay you as the extra benefits will very quickly pay off what you need to shell out now.0 -
Hi nm8553,
I did pay the shortfall immediately and was still refused as I was then told it went only towards my pension. I do not have the life expectancy to pension age.
Being happy to be alive doesn't pay the bills and the samaritans are only there to listen. They cannot help me
and I will only become a drain on my partner as I live.
I worked in palliative care for Crossroads and Mcmillan, and m.s was my main client base.
I know whats coming.so near yet so what.....0 -
Sorry, hadn't read your second post, which is why I deleted mine.0

Voluntary class 3 contributions do not help towards IB.0 -
my experience of benefits is mainly around DLA/CA/PC/HB/CTA (thank God we don't have to type them all in full every time) but there are plenty on here with much more/wider experience of benefits than me and I don't see giving up as an answer to the shortcomings of the system. Fight, fight, and when you are ready to throw in the towel....start again. There are always solutions and dark days are always followed by days when you feel you want to be up to it.0
