My daughter got a Samsung netbook for her birthday from Currys on 1st may. It is running extremely slowly to the point of being unusable, we took it back to Currys who asked us to take it to the Tech guys at PC World (whose service has been appalling but that is another story!). Anyway just been told that there is nothing wrong with the hardware and if we want the software checked they will charge us as it is not covered under warranty. Can I still ask for a replacement or refund? I know Currys can be a nightmare regarding returns/refunds and would appreciate any advice0

was it slow from new
what software has been installed on it since she had it
is there anything like smiley central on it?0 -
Slow from new.
only some of the pre-loaded software has been activated e.g. trial of MS word that came with it etc.
Only thing we have loaded is the BT software to run it on our home hub
Nothing else on it at all.0 -
i would do a reinstall/back to factory settings
once you have done that and if it still runs slowly you can then let them do a software check0 -
Thing is about a software check is that they are going to Charge me for it which I feel is extremely unfair as it is only 18 days old! All I want is to take it back to Currys and be offered a replacement or a refund - am I entitled to that? I thought things has to be "fit for purpose" and it is not.0

sorry i thought they were going to charge if nothing was found to be wrong?
in that case i would still do the factory reset and see how it runs
you also may want to get advice on the tech board if it runs slow after a reset
what sort of level of tech knowledge do you have?
once you have done the reset and if it runs slow after that then its faulty in as much as faulty from base settings
do you have a link to the model of laptop?0 -
No they are going to charge me regardless as "software is not covered under warranty". It is a Samsung N150 and I dont have a "link" to the model of it. I know a little bit about computers and can run system scans and things. Sure I will manage to restore the factory settings as it appears to have a programme that you click on that does that - was just a bit wary of trying it just in case Currys accused me of "fiddling" with it and making things worse!0
-
okay, try right clicking on the task bar
then select start task manager from the list it presents
whats the deal with CPU/memory load?
if you download the free version of PC mark http://www.futuremark.com/products/pcmark05/
you should get around 1,355 for that model
this will let you see how near the mark it is

hey there, was wondering if you could help me out
i bought a car the other week (7/5/2010) and all was good until saturday when there was a loud noise coming from under the car, i had a look and there was a hole in the exhaust. the car came with a 3 month/3000 miles warrentee, having read this, it states "with the sole exception of those parts listed below, replacement or repair is assured up to the agreed maximum payment" with exhaust being mentioned in the list. i rang the guy up today and he is willing to pay for half of the cost, as we have only had the car for a little over a week. i was just wundering if i could get them to cover the whole of the cost as it was sold with no hole but magically over the week it developed one! its not like we go rally driving at the weekends either, last week it drove me to work and back every day and my girlfriend did some driving at the weekend. any words of wisdom would be appreciated!
thanks

Did you buy the car from a dealer or a private individual?0
