    in order for your wife to get the full price she paid she will have to produce evidence of the purchase.

    If she can't produce proof the Store are entitled to offer the current price.

    Yes, although a repair doesn't seem practical. If the dress has a label in it showing it was from Tesco that should be fine to ask for a replacement. If they don't have the particular model in stock they should offer a similar one.

  • Hey guys. Long time lurker of this site and forum. The amount of help and support you provide is nothing short of incredible. You are true saints.

    Anyway, my problem:

    My mother bought an Xbox 360 second hand from Gamestation (still have the receipt). This abruptly died the other day (about 3 months from the purchase date). I phoned up Microsoft support to get the usual repair train rolling (had the same issue with my own Xbox 360 [I am at Uni now, so this second Xbox was for my younger brothers]) as it is still under warranty. Problem is, the previous owner registered the console and his own details with Microsoft Support, meaning unless I can prove the Xbox with the serial number I am trying to register was bought second hand, they can not know whether I have stolen it and sowon't do anything.

    The receipt says nothing of a serial number, and obviously I doubt Gamestation will give me the previous owners details (even if they have them) because of the DPA. What I am worried about, is Gamestation not having any record of serial numbers for the Xbox's they sell second hand. If this is the case, and there is nothing Gamestation can do to help me prove to MS it is ours, can I reasonable expect they to have to replace it?

    The console was sold with no faults disclosed, and this problem (3 red lights), is a common one in old Xbox 360s. I just don't think it would be fair to pay for a console and then 3 months down the line be told "tough" :/

    I am sure Gamestation will have the details and if you explain your problem they should be able to help you. You are covered under the Sale of Goods Act anyway so remind them of this when you contact them.

    So even if they don't have the previous owners details and/or cannot prove it was that specific Xbox we bought, they still have an obligation to get something sorted?

    Yes, most definitely. Also I would be very surprised if they don't have some details of the original owner. They would want to satisfy themselves they were not buying stolen goods.

    Went in today with the Xbox and the deails I jotted down from my talk with MS and explained the situation. Apart from not knowing anything about the topic at hand (he seemed to think console makers make loads of money off second hand games and consoles, when in fact they make none, and also seemed to think giving customers the option of registering their purchase products was a "stupid idea" and a big mess), the person who served me was generous enough to just give us a straight swap and I walked out with a replacement.

    Good result but not quite as expected.
    Some retailers never fail to surprise me with their lack of knowledge of consumer rights. Have you got any info on the replacement in case you have a similar problem?

    Hi, I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice, sorry for the long post but I thought I would try and get everything in :)

    I had damaged the wheel on my bike so took it into a local shop to have it repaired, I was told the wheel was too damaged to fix and I would need a new one so I had that ordered in.

    I took the old wheel and the new one in, I was then told that the new wheel had a different fitting, for the cassette (rear gears) so I would need a new cassette, the other option was a new wheel that would need to be ordered in, because they were closing up and I wanted the bike to get to work I agreed to buy the new cassette, which I shouldn't really have bought:p

    I took the bike home, fitted the tire and wheel back on the bike. I soon found that the chain would jump around and actually come off the cassette onto the wheel.
    I took the bike in and was told that they would have to book it in and setup the gears and I would really need a new chain as an old one would wear the cassette more, that would cost me around another £30 to have it fixed, this is onto of the £35 wheel and £15 cassette.
    I argued that this was their fault as they had ordered in the wrong wheel and was edging toward them fixing it for free but they weren't having it. After this I left to think about it, really I should have demanded a refund there and then but unfortunately I didn't being the fool I am:p

    Now I haven't touched the bike since, but haven't been back the shop either, this all happened about 2 months ago.

    Is there anything I can do or have I been an idiot and left it too long?
