I'm sure that a couple of years ago I was able to take the receipt of a camera I bought on Xmas Eve back to the shop I bought it from once the Jan sales had started and claim the saving in the reduced price because the price had gone down within 14 days of me buying the camera.

I can't seem to find any evidence of this now, have I been dreaming? Was it once a consumer right that has been dropped? or is it still in existance?

If a shop offers a low price guarantee you can technically claim under their own scheme.
However, you have to ask yourself why should you be entitled to do so. If the camera goes up in price are you going to pay the difference?

  • Can anyone advise me???
I recently sent my iMac in for repair from the apple approved retailer I bought it from in Feb 07. I was told that the hard-drive needed to be replaced as is faulty... It is out of warranty, but only 19 months old. I discussed this with apple, who are not prepared to do anything as it was purchased from anotehr retailer... should a hard-drive be expected to last longer than this... I certainly anticipated taht it would when I paid £900 for it!
Any advice on my next course of action, or how to broach the issue with the retailer?
    Thanks In advance :-)
    In 2010 I intend to lose 36.5lbs and gain 365 £s
    :A :money:

    Progress so far: 0 lbs 0 £
    10k in 2010 total: £7.47

Firstly, it is the responsibility of the retailer you purchased from as far as repairs etc go.

Hard drives in general should last longer than yours but after this length of time you are only going to get somewhere if you can get a report showing that there is an inherent fault with it.

  • FREE GIFT RECEIVED AFTER CONTRACT CANCELED?????

My uncle took out a mobile phone contract last month, but ended up canceling it after the mobile phone company sent him a used phone. He called them and they sent a another phone out to him, again that had already been used!!!
So he ended up canceling the contract, due to this failure to provide new goods.

This was about 2-3 weeks ago.

However he then received a free gift in the post a few days ago, which was given to people who take out the contract.

    But the contract is canceled!!!!

Is he obliged to return gift even if they do/do not request its return??
    Thanks in Advance

    Hope this makes sense!!!

Yes if the free gift is conditional on him taking the contract. However, he can demand that they arrange to collect or arrange return at their expense.

    right,
    long story short -
last week ordered a Tom Tom from Tesco using my own clubcard vouchers. The order was annoyingly cancelled as apparently they tried to get in touch with me to verify some security info. (although I received no phone calls). The tom tom quickly went out of stock so I had to wait again until it comes back in stock.

Fast forward to this morning, its back in stock.

My tesco vouchers are still stored on the web site, so I tried to use them, but i couldnt get past the checkout stage. As I had been trying to find the Tom Tom in stock at Tesco for ages I went into a panic and called their 0845 number which is not inclusive on my mobile tarriff (saynoto0870.com lists numbers where they wont pass you through to Tesco Direct)

I kept being passed round and round in circles on Tesco Direct / Clubcard teams and this carried on for about 30 mins where basically they couldnt really help me progress my order.

Frstrated, I then called again a bit later.

Finally I spoke to a nice guy who said 'order the tom tom and we will refund you the value of the vouchers as theres a problem accepting clubcard vouchers on our system.

I gave up ordering from the web site, so called them again and finally managed to order. I am told its gone through so heres hoping for the best.

Now, I am really annoyed at having to chase them around and getting nowhere - is there any way I can ask them to refund the cost of my mobile calls to them as I was spending money chasing them up on a problem which was not created by me? Is there any specific department which I should write to?

    Thanks in advance everyone.

    anyone? :money:

How much are we talking? You have to ask yourself if it's only a small amount is it worth it. On O2 I pay 12p per minute for minutes outside my inclusive allowance.

If you think it's worth chasing I would suggest a letter to their customer service manager pointing out their inefficient call handling procedure but I have to say I don't think they are legally obliged to make a refund. They may make a payment as a goodwill gesture.

I will have to wait for the cost to show up on my bill in 48 hours. But O2 charge 25p per min for 0845 calls, and I think I made about 30 mins worth, which is about £7.50.

I didn't realise the charge was that high. Personally I wouldn't waste a lot of time chasing this amount but a letter to them won't do any harm and may get you a result.

yeah I've already drafted a letter. Just waiting for the call charges to show up before I send it off. Any idea where I should write to? The Tesco Direct web site has a generic customer services email address, but should i write to someone higher up the chain?
