Sports Direct normally have signs at the tills detailing their refund/exchange policy. I think it's pretty clear they don't refund unless faulty. Morally it's a problem but legally there isn't much a consumer can do bar heed the warnings

Here is completely different situation. The item I've bought is faulty and I have a receipt. Anyway, is there a quick description of British consumer law or instruction what to do if there is a problem?
• Hi there. I'm looking for some advice please.

In september we bought a large tv from an online company. About 5 weeks ago, it broke down, wouldnt switch on etc. So I notified the company we bought it from, and they sent out another company to take the tv away for repair quite promptly.

The only contact I had up until yesterday with the repair company, was when I called 10 days ago to find out what was happening, they said they were waiting on a part, and they didn't know when it would arrive. I then contacted both the company who sold us the tv, and the repair company asking about a loan set (we've gone from our lovely big 50-something inch tv to a 15 year old portable that I can;t even connect the wii up to!) and both companies refused.

What I would like to know (after that big saga i just told!) is do I have any rights to a new tv, or a loan set, as I think that 4 weeks, with no indication of when the tv will be returned is a bit excessive.

Thanks in advance!

Did the lasy not have a name badge on?
No, she had not any badge. All her colleagues, on the contrary, had.

The TV has to be repaired in a reasonable time, but reasonable isn't defined in law. You should deal with the company you made the purchase from. Write to them, copy the repair company, telling them that if the TV isn't in full working order in the next 10 days you will go to the Small Claims Court.
As this is a new TV you are entitled to a replacement or refund.

Ah, I was hoping there would be a defined time of what is reasonable.

Thanks for your help!

Hi guys

I don't know if I'm posting on the right forum but here goes!!

I bought my daughter a Kodak camera £89 from Boots in February. She didn't use it until on holiday on the 21st March and after only a couple of hours she showed me it and the screen had totally blown. There was lines all over it. Obviously we couldn't use it anymore but we don't know what to do next. The kodak instructions say that they don't cover accidental damage and I don't know what Boots could do? We aren't covered on our home insurance.

Has anyone got any ideas?

Boots are usually pretty good with things like that, normally when you buy stuff they tell you your receipt is your guarantee, it usually says so on the receipt, if you've got it it should be no probs to take it back to them, if not, then I'm not sure to be honest. It will have a warranty obviously, Kodak might be able to tell when it was made from the serial number but I guess what they won't know is when it was sold, unless you've got a receipt.

I'm not sure why you say Kodak won't cover accidental damage, I thought you were meaning it just stoppped working/went wonky all on its own, you didn't mention that it had had an "accident" or did I miss that?

Hi
Thanks for the advice. The screen looks as if it has been either squashed or dropped even though we didn't do either. So I think Kodak would be funny about it.
I can't find a receipt even though I do usually keep all receipts but I did buy it online so will have an online confirmation.
Thanks again

THIS IS NOW RESOLVED THANK YOU!!

Hi my wife purchased a product from and the item never turned up despite their website saying that it would be posted registered post.

A month later my wife sent them an email via the contact us part on their website requesting a refund as we no longer wanted the item. They then mailed back the next day saying that the item had been despatched but as it was only £15 they sent it via first class post as opposed to registered as they claimed but they would sort a refund out straight away. Another month down the line still no refund so my wife mailed them requesting immediate refund and got no response. Another week passed i then messaged them with a strongly worded message telling them i was going to let as many people as possible know to avoid their company as they have in effect stolen our money but still no response.

What is the best way forward please?

Gio back to Boots. If it's a manufacturing problem they will sort it out for you.
