Does not all of this prove that the problem is with Tiscali ?
  • i should mention - the proxy server gets busy, so if you get the message "the proxy server refused the connection" - just keep trying (repost data).
i usually get through after 4 or 5 goes :-)

Definitely something strange going on - someone is blocking someone! I'm with Pipex and abbey has been blocked for about a week.
I have a relakks account, and have just connected via that and can get into Abey no problems. As this traffic is forwarded to Abbey from Sweden, it can't be an "international address" issue

    Interested to see developments

Ive sent 2 emails to tiscali, no reply:mad:

Ive sent email to abbey, no reply:mad:

everybody that has this problem needs to email or contact abbey and tiscali with regards to this matter, in the slim hope that they will do something about it;)

them just blaming each other is not helping us:mad:

and we cant be fobbed off with its your security settings etc as Ive checked these and can access all other secure web sites;)

maybe tiscali should give us a refund on our service, maybe if they had to do that the problem would be sorted ASAP;)

On Friday I emailed Abbey and Tiscali, no replies. I have phoned both of them numerous times.

Was told on Saturday morning by someone at Tiscali that it was resolved, I said it wasn't, they checked and said it would be another couple of hours. Being fogged off or what!.

Abbey said I could use a friend's computer or go to the library and use the ones there (if they don't have Tiscali or Pipex) or use telephone banking.

I signed up with Tiscali in June last year on the promise I would have free line rental within 2 weeks. Six months later and after numerous phone and no free line rental because they didn't know when my exchange would be upgraded I got them to cancel my contract but it also didn't help that it took them months to sort out a speed issue.
Before that I was with Pipex and at the end of the contract I cancelled and for no reason at all they took just over £400 out of my account which I went mad at and got back immediately.
Moral of the story is pay a little extra and go with BT.

This is getting more and more annoying as time goes on ... you would think that someone (needn't be a genius) would be able to work out what has gone wrong and fix it ... it will be interesting to see what emerges when the conspiracy theorists start 'explaining' this situation ... will it be far more sinister than any of us have imagined!

have just emailed abbey and will do Pipex next ... am not expecting a reply ... but hey ... hope springs eternal

You could sign up for a dial up account through Windows and it's only a penny a minute but at least you'll go through another ISP.

Better still, use an ISP that does not have long term contracts, that way if you are not happy, you can move.

My ISP has a 30 day contract only.
