Have just phoned Abbey again and they can give no time scale to resolve this problem. They are still waiting on Tiscali.

Have you tried an alternative DNS as post #3?

    Problem is with Tiscali only.

It is not a DNS problem - myonlineaccounts2.abbeynational.co.uk and myonlineaccounts3.abbeynational.co.uk both resolve correctly.

Most likey Abbey are filtering to allow login to only UK ip address, but Tiscali are not playing ball by using only defined ip ranges for UK customers, so abbey don't know what addresses to allow and don't want to give access to Tiscali's international customers.

Possibly Tiscali are filtering themselves but I can't think why they'd do this. Maybe they have some dubious content filter thats being over zealous.

    Just my tuppence worth.

I've now been in touch with Tiscali support 3 times and all they advise is to change the DNS server settings on my PC or reconfigure Internet Explorer.

Tiscali are known for blocking encrypted traffic on certain ports. It started around the same time they started blocking/throttling P2P traffic, I believe.

When I was with Pipex I couldn't log into a remote system using the default remote desktop port during peak hours, but if I tunneled it through another port it worked just fine. It worked on the default port at 3AM, but if I tried at 3PM it wouldn't connect.

Check the thinkbroadband forums, there will be lots of old posts on there about it. I thought they'd been sensible enough to stop it, but apparently not.

Tiscali, and all its subcompanies, are collectively the worst ISPs around. I'd go with AOL before Tiscali. Leave them at the first opportunity. Check http://www.samknows.com to see what real ISPs are available in your area.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

Sounds about right for Tiscali, pay peanuts, get monkeys.;)

I've been with Tiscali for years and never had any trouble getting into either of my bank accounts or my Visa account with Tesco. I have several other secure connections and they all work well too.

I reckon the problem lies with Abbey.

Googling for myonlineaccounts2.abbeynational.co.uk suggests that perhaps Tiscali are blocking this url because they believe it to be a phishing site. Similar urls are the subject of many real phishing attacks.

Another faint possibility is that Abbey have blocked all Tiscali ip addresses because they have identified real security issues as coming through Tiscali's network, and because of poor quality information from Tiscali, this is the only option for Abbey.

    Just my fourpenny worth.

am having same problems loggin on to ebanking - spoke to abbey ecommerce and was told that it was not known if problem lay with abbey or tiscali. let's hope someone takes responsibility and resolves this quickly.
  • I'm starting to think Charis is right. There are posts from Geriatric on one of the Banking threads, where Abbey told him he wouldn't be able to move money between his accounts for several days because they were migrating customers to new servers. I've also had a particularly convincing phishing email this week pretending to be from Abbey and asking me to log on to retrieve a secure message. These could just be coincidences, but it's so frustrating that I've not had any problems with Tiscali or Abbey ever before and now Abbey support have fobbed me off with saying they don't have a problem and Tiscali support have not bothered to respond to a message this morning. One things for sure - once I can get into my Abbey account I'll be emptying it before anyone else does!! Thanks for the helpful updates - says it all really when there's more helpful information appearing on here than directly from either Abbey or Tiscali!!
