Sarah, my thoughts are with you too. Life can be an !!!!!! sometimes, I hope you can remember the good bits too, and look forward to some more.
I am enjoynig pottering around the house, have a loaf on the go in the breadmaker. Usually I am working (i am self employed) but I am taking it easy after a really nasty bout of flu and every other bug that was around last week. I now am beginning to wish I didn't do paid employment. I have spent a lot of time indoors lately and want to get my home more organised! We have HM chips for tea, and chocolate brownies for afters. Not v healthy but they were too squishy to put in the packed lunches!
My hens are still laying, albeit a bit irregularly.
I am going to do a little bit of housework and then put some clothes away. Got builders in doing the bathroom so the house is still lightly sprinkled in a layer of old style dust.
Sarah I hope you get all the DLA you are entitled to for your DS. I get it for mine because of all the extra help he needs. Its being increased soon, I think cos he will be 6 in March.
Parents' evening later, usually has me emotionally drained, I am determined to be brave today and face what's coming!
Hope you all have a good old style tuesday!Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Morning (just)
Still got a rotten cold, still not had the guts to phone in sick, and worse still, I've been talked into being on a pub quiz team tonight. Don't want to pull out as I'm brilliant at pub quizzes and don't want to let the side downplus i fancy a night of doing something interesting - I slept for 8 1/2 hours last night which is unheard-of for me on a weekday!
Picked up 4 reduced cooking apples (bramleys) in Sainsbury's last night - any ideas what to do with them? I've had a look at the recipe index but all I could find was the slow-cooked baked apples (difficult to use up four in one go when you're only cooking for one) and some cake/loaf recipes which specifically ask for eating apples. Suppose I could do a crumble but again, nobody to feed it to except me. I'd like a cake recipe if possible, cos then I can eat it gradually or feed it to the choir I currently rehearse with on Sundays.
:grouphug: to vastsarah and anybody else in need.

Edit: just noticed somebody gave me my 100th thankyou hit!Operation Get in Shape

Well I'm still sitting here at the pc which isn't very clever -- someone give me a shove in the direction of the kitchen pleeeeassee!!
I have however just managed to buy the cardigan I've been coverting for the past 2 months....thanks to a 15% off code on here and the fact it was reduced, I got it for £18 instead of £45! :j
Then had a wander onto a few sites looking for a wardrobe for DD - just wanted a canvas style one as she has an awkward sized gap.....got one reduced to half price £16.49, got a skirt to go with my cardi reduced from £29 to £14.99 and used a code to get £10 off and free next day delivery! :j :j I think we can deduce that I'm a very happy shopper today! :T
And now back to OS ways and something tasty and quick for lunch......."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -

Apple Crumble. Yummm!! I only cook for myself, and just freeze the portions...... I havent been able to find cooking apples anyway, so made my apple crumble at the weekend with regular apples (not as nice!!).

I rather use apples of any sort that I have to hand when doing crumbles and pies. Normally I soften Bramleys with a little sugar before I add them; but with dessert apples I just add them with no added sugar and no pre-cooking.
There's a difference, yes, but not too marked. Unless my taste buds are giving up, that is. (I noticed after stopping smoking that not only did everything taste more of itself but quite a lot tasted "wrong". I've mostly adjusted, but I could still be way off the mark with apples)

Yeh I love Apple Crumble too! When I was little me, sis & bro used to take it in turns to make the pud for Sunday lunch. I liked doing Apple Crumble which was my dad's favourite. Oooh and I love custard too - used to eat custard on its own!
Should make it extra special by using dark brown sugar, as I've got a packet that needs using up which I think dates back to Pancake Day 2004! I'd use granulated for the crumble (for texture) but muscovado in the filling
Hey ms_london, you're on your 100th thankyou too!!
Guess what - the pub quiz is off (team organiser got the date wrong)! Might get an early night after all...Operation Get in Shape
