Sandbox being a sandbox I'd want it to be independant by definition. Besides since this is a hypothetical with a dependancy on being affluent there's not much point in trying to be "efficient". Do you drive economically in your dreams to save on dream petrol? :rotfl: ;)

me, drive efficient? save fuel? why.. it is company money! :D

but no support, which general joe bloggs wants....

Never once found any PC manufacturer's support helpful and almost always worse, slower and more expensive than getting it sorted yourself, even if that means hiring a pc repair person. Not talking just about my own pc I bought a decade ago but all my relatives' PCs for which I'm apparently the tech support for. In my personal experience PC manufacturers' support is not worth the paper it's written on. Others' may have had better experience but for those that are capable of building/maintaining a PC at least would be no better off buying a PC outright.

Of course for many people they just want to buy the box and that's the end of it but my original dispute with a previous post is the claim that it's cheaper to do that.

so where are you not supported??? buy the parts from a decent online store so thats covered with warranties

and buy the operating system which again has support

so i can't see where you don't have support if something goes wrong

oh and don't forget i can just google ANY problem for a pc and can 99% of the time get the answer

Lost count the number of times people have come on here to get computer problems solved AFTER they'd already tried to get it resolved through their pc manufacturer's support.

ok.. you go get the same components, price them up and do a comparison against what i'm comparing here, to clarify, it is a PC running vista, with an ALL IN ONE design, with an iMac, which is also an ALL IN ONE design... running OS X obviously, as it comes with that.

that is my argument, that the mac is REASONABLY priced, when it comes comparing spec for spec, design for design..

I could run OSX leopard on a home built PC if I wanted, there is a fudge to instal it then it's there. Don't see the point in doing something ilegal just to prove a point though.

That's because a majority of the time people are to lazy to find the answer themselves,

for point one, which i've made in bold, yeah.. i've been tech support in the past for my sister, my dad, my mum, my mate, and his dad... mainly because they all used PC's that I had built them...

now... all of them have converted to mac's and i do get no tech support calls at all.... weird huh!

as for the second point.. yeah exactly.. people want to buy something, turn it on, and start using it...

now, where is my comparison cat, on a pc all in one that you can build, against an apple mac.. i'm waiting... i am!

I think the point was missed. My point was that the PC manufacturer support is sometimes (most times in IME) useless because people still have to go and find support for their problem whether that's on this forum OR finding out themselves.
