i'll agree that there are may be issues in upgrading an imac, but similarly there would be issues, with the dell that i compared at the start..
now, i know i can upgrade ram and hard drive space inside my imac, and graphics, well that would be the difficulty, but i don't play many games, so i'm alright really on that... if you're a gamer, you wouldn't consider a mac....
I am a gamer (well I try to be, hence a thread I started on building a new PC). But there are work things too with development stuff that'd make a Mac impractical at best. But it certainly be fun to have one as well. Maybe in future (with all this money I'm dreaming of, if only shops accepted hypothetical money
) they seem well integrated together and a good system to have for general overall running of things in life (tracking all your media etc).
As for the Dell, you're right, the One can be dismissed straight off as it's a complete self contained solution, and as for the rest they're all BTX standard anyway which isn't exactly easy to buy for."She is quite the oddball. So Cat, why do you have such an immovable hatred for Mac? Is it from bad experience, the restraining order Mr Jobs had to get, or is it just a jealousy thing?!
sorry, genuine question.

to be honest mate its down to the fact that they are:- (and these are MY opinions NOT anyone elses)
less upgradable
costly for what you get ( as in spec wise not interested in how it looks)
some software i use won't work on them
can't game on them (well not high end games)
not comaptible with stuff from work
And as with most Apple products very restrictive on the freedom with them
i can't build it myself (i like doing this because i learn about the system etc)
i don't diagree that they are good and nice looking but i just think they are overpriced and to restricted for what i use my pc for (this is the big one i guess...MY USE not anybody elses)
i can honestly say i have very few problems with my self built system...its has a higher spec that cost over 200 quid cheaper and runs vista ultimate like a dream
a pc does everything a mac can do and more for cheaper...that simple
and if it breaks i can fix it (which it hasn't done yet)If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly
I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right0 -
Ok, fair points and i respect that...
At the end of the day its all down to opinions, and its mine that counts most
For me, it's the user friendliness of the Mac, the speed of processing and reliability that I value most. I am not a gamer, so dont worry about those criteria, and I am a fairly creative guy so enjoy the stuff Mac's are good at and put as standard on their computers.:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. well put....each to his own;)
Don't get me wrong if i was given a MAC i wouldn't moan...but i would never buy oneIf you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly

Yep they each have their strengths and weaknesses. What people place on which in terms of priorities is down to their circumstances and personal preferences. Even in my little dreamworld I can have both (many) platforms and use them for different things. It's always a pointless argument making it about absolutes, i.e a PC is better than a MAC, OS X is better than Vista..... etc."She is quite the oddball. I wouldn't moan either but have to say I think I'd rather have a "never say never" view. I remember the days when I swore blind I'd never use Windows or buy a Wintel PC. I wouldn't buy a Mac in my personal financial circumstances but me not buying a Mac isn't an absolute, it's a dependancy on factors such as finances, which can change over time. I think zealotry can sometimes be as much about being against something as being for it and I find it's something to watch out for and address/quash if I find it occurring in myself."She is quite the oddball. to be honest mate its down to the fact that they are:- (and these are MY opinions NOT anyone elses)
1 - less upgradable
2 - costly for what you get ( as in spec wise not interested in how it looks)
3 - some software i use won't work on them
4 - can't game on them (well not high end games)
5 - not comaptible with stuff from work
6 - And as with most Apple products very restrictive on the freedom with them
7 - i can't build it myself (i like doing this because i learn about the system etc)
8 - i don't diagree that they are good and nice looking but i just think they are overpriced and to restricted for what i use my pc for (this is the big one i guess...MY USE not anybody elses)
9 - i can honestly say i have very few problems with my self built system...its has a higher spec that cost over 200 quid cheaper and runs vista ultimate like a dream
10 - a pc does everything a mac can do and more for cheaper...that simple
11- and if it breaks i can fix it (which it hasn't done yet)
valid points for your situation, but, there are a certain points that are interesting..
and here are my reasons why i'd go for a mac, and never buy a pc again...
1 - macs last longer, without needing to be upgraded.
2 - i'll stand by the discussion of that spec for spec, when comparing branded machines, they are reasonable. yes a pc if you build it up in a case is cheaper and i have never ever said that it was.
3 - there are 1000's of programs, and i'd be interested to find what you need that won't run on a mac
4 - valid
5 - depends on software, i'm sitting in the office, and have full communication with the servers here, i can log in via AD if i wanted to.. there are certain software that doesn't run natively on a mac though.
6 - restrictive in what way? you've already got point 1, so if there is anything other than the upgradability, this point is null..
7 - have computers really changed in 10 years.. is there anything much to learn new about building a computer?
8 - again with the overpriced.. and the only type of person who a mac wouldn't be suitable for is a gamer... IMO
9 - i've had no problems with my 5 year old mac which is now retired, and have had no issues with any other mac. and again with the price argument!
10 - a mac can do everything a pc can do and more, wih a nicer design, and is still reasonably priced... that simple
11 - and if it breaks, i can fix it (which it hasn't done yet!)
i think you're getting obsessed on a cost to be honest...
