  • Hello all,
Can I join the sock monkey club?! I have already made two after reading this thread! :T Am now working on the third, which is going to be an xmas pressie for my sister.

As a few people are talking about stuffing, thought I'd add my two pennies worth! I bought a massive bag of polyester stuffing on ebay, it cost £2.80 inc. P&P. Unfortunalty the seller I got it from doesn't seem to have any ATM, but if you search for 'toy stuffing' on ebay loads comes up. The bag I got was 250g, they squished it down really small to post it but there is loads, at least enough for a dozen monkeys I'd say, maybe more. It is lovely and soft, I think it is washable too which is a bonus.

ZLS1984 sorry to hear your monkey went wrong! If it really is that bad you could undo the stitching and start again. ( I had to do this on my last one when I realised I'd sewn the legs on the wrong end of the sock!) Or just make him inside out - I think some socks actually look better that way!

Stardrops I think your monkeys are amazing!!! I dream that one day mine will look as good as that! :rotfl:

Hi Blue Fairy, I have picked up my monkey and kept going, although I stiched it on the wrong side it looks kinda cool. I will keep going with it and post pictures when I can. I think I might actually be addited to this monkey making lol.

I was thinking, would it be possible to make one with kids tights, I think my daughter has some that she has grown out of. If I could make them into a monkey then that would be great.

Tell ya what when I find said tights I will have a go and post pictures.

  • Glad to hear you persevered with it ZLS! :T
I thought of using cut-up tights, but think I read somewhere on the net the monkey might look a bit lumpy stuffed this way. ( I can't remember how I found out about sock monkeys, might have been this site or somewhere else, but I have trawled through many sites for hints and tips on making them!) Would be intersted to know how yours turn out, if it works it will be an excellent bit of moneysaving! Look forward to seeing pics :)
  • Oops just read your post again, you mean actually making the monkey out of tights, not stuffing it with them don't you! Doh sorry! :o

Blue Fairy its ok, you made me laugh which I needed today. Yep I meant making the monkey out of tights. 1 Pair would be the body and legs, might need rounding off at the feet, then the 2nd pair would be cut down into arms ears, nose and tail.

    Hi

You can get lovely toy stuffing at Fabric Land for only £2.10 a bag - this is a 450g bag.

They have branches all over - check here to see if there is one close to you http://www.fabricland.co.uk/
