Great monkey Kevin. Everybody has their own way of sewing the mouths on the monkeys and that's what makes each one different and lovely.:T
  • I love this thread - and have always fancied making a sock monkey - and after my first - rather voodoo looking monkey ( that my daughter adores) ive been making them when i have a little spare time - a few for christmas presents etc - and a friend told me about an online selling site that deals in mainly crafts so i put a couple on there - and i was so shocked and excited as one of them is off all the way to America for someones christmas present - such a nice feeling when your monkey is 'accepted!' i love some of the monkeys made from character socks - but i was wondering if anyone knows how they are done - as the ones i have seen have the character - hello kitty, winnie pooh etc the right way up in the centre of the chest (hope that makes sense?) ? and id love to do one each for my son and daughter for xmas.I prefer my monkeys with the necks pulled in as i prefer the shape - think thats what is great about them you can make them unique - - happy sewing xx

I suppose you could try sewing the open end up and then cutting the toe off/open on the sock that you want to use for the main body, that would mean you could use the sock the right way up IYSWIM?

My god I so want to make one of these! I can't sew for the life of me, but they're so cute that I'm willing to give it a go!

Can anyone recommend an easy to follow pattern ???

Gill635 If you google for a pattern I'm sure there are a few that will come up.
  • I know this is a little bit out there, but after making a few sock monkeys, I would really love to make a sock turtle...

I have found pictures of some and I love love love this one -

    http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=sock+turtle&hl=en&sa=X&biw=1228&bih=599&tbm=isch&prmd=imvns&tbnid=vqW5ZAdv1HLV3M:&imgrefurl=http://www.folksy.com/items/854241-Sock-Turtle-Sheldon-by-Socklings&docid=IhxQcHut-s3yDM&imgurl=http://d200fahol9mbkt.cloudfront.net/item/6017769/SDC15784.JPG&w=495&h=495&ei=ghHFTqjwBorv8QOiqN2mCw&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=273&sig=101856075903603286270&page=1&tbnh=123&tbnw=126&start=0&ndsp=21&ved=1t:429,r:2,s:0&tx=35&ty=46

But I can only find patterns for knitted turtles, not sock turtles - anyone any idea where I might get one, or anyone who is brainier than me able to work out how to use the socks to make the right shapes?!

Thanks in advance, and loving all the new sock monkeys!

Sorry Debz I can't help you with the sock turtles. Just keep fiddling around with the socks and you might be able to come up with something.

  • Hello,

I have decided to make sock monsters for my friends this year as money is very tight.

    Your creations are amazing!

The mouths on them are bothering me, what "animal" would people suggest as a beginner and that i can make around 6 of?
