  • Hello,

I'm loving all the sock monkeys on here and REALLY want to make one, the only *slight* problem I have is that I can't really sew :rotfl:

And I've got a bit of a random question: Most annoyingly lots of the socks I really like (for example Oddsocks) have brand names on the sole and I was just wondering what part of the monkey the sole of the sock would become?

    TIA

  • Hello,

I have decided to make sock monsters for my friends this year as money is very tight.

    Your creations are amazing!

The mouths on them are bothering me, what "animal" would people suggest as a beginner and that i can make around 6 of?

    I started with a sock cat, which I found easier than a monkey because I didn't know how to sew all the bits on :) I also made a cow from the same tutorial;

  • 3 Years ago I made a giant sock monkey with over knee socks, this was part of my Mums birthday present.

Last night my niece was playing with 'monkey' and asked for one of her own. She'd like a pink and purple ballerina sock monkey. Got a feeling this one maybe fiddly

If you use the "traditional" sock monkey tutorial like this one then one sole will be the back of the body and the other will be his ears... You might be able to arrange it so they're the back of the ears, depending on how big the writing is?

As for beginners, I'd recommend a monster like mine above to start with because nobody knows what it's supposed to look like anyway and the mouth is much easier!

I finally found a nice easy pattern, but I can't find any flippin socks I like! Keep finding nice stripey ones, but there's none with different coloured toes & heel! Going for another look in Mr T's tonight on the way home from work - I need to get started as I can't sew and I'll still be making them come next Christmas!

Gill653; How about looking in Primark, New Look or other outlets they might have different patterns.

Kevie; I like monsters as well they make a lovely alternative to monkeys.

giggles; You could use a kiddies hair bunch thingy for a tutu. I think you can get them easily in the cheap shops. Might make it a bit easier to dress her up.

Moomin; Yes, the sole would be the monkeys back.

Thats a great idea, thanks :T

The funny thing was, I saw some childrens socks reduced, pink and purple in nieces size. Lucky I bought several sets as now she wants monkeys with them :D

I give mine to my daughter to stuff as she seems to be a natural and can get a much smoother finish than me.
Sorry no help to you but didn't want to read and run.:o
  • I take a big lump off stuffing and constantly feed it into the legs/ arms and then if it is slightly lumpy I roll it between my hands HTH
