I usually use ladies socks, but in the past, have also made monkies out of those over the knee socks so they have very dangly limbs :D
  • Thanks - I assume that ones with contrasting coloured heels and toes are best too.

I will never look at a pair of socks in the same way again!

Yep, you will start to get strange looks as you loiter by the sock stand, stroking the socks, examining them, putting them back, putting them in your trolley, asking advice from OH..... and so on. :D

    Haha Pennib thats me lol!

I try not to buy directional patterns as the main body of the monkey is a sock upside down. I had a pair of heart patterned socks in a pack of 3 and I didn't make them into a monkey as the hearts would have been upside down...if that makes sense!

I am going to keep my eye out for suitable socks. What length/size do people tend to use?

Here is a photo of the long overknee socks that I used. No sock is immune from being turned into a monkey :rotfl:

I added some velcro to the legs and arms so that the little girl could carry it around attached to her (if you see what I mean) and also they could all join hands and be used as a banner. See monkeys have multi uses as well :T

  • Ladies can I join you all, my 3 children all love their sock monkey's, (all brought from craft fairs), and being a crafty person (although not to good with sewing), will give them a go.

So of to town today to buy 3 lots of socks.

Was also wondering if to give these to the teachers as presents (they are fairly youngish female teachers).

Struggling now with ideas for the teachers.... as the kids are now in yrs 3, 5 &6 and have all had the same teachers for a few years.

I somehow lost this thread and have just re-discovered it. Anyway, here is my latest sock monkey - made for my OH's gran. I think I'll buy a wee brooch to pin the mini shawl together as only have a pin there atm. The glasses are a bit Elton John aren't they? :rotfl::rotfl:

happycamper....the more the merrier. The thread has slowed down somewhat. But there is 194 pages to browse through! We didn't have teacher present buying when mine were young so sorry can't help you there. What about a card from the children thanking her for her teaching over the year?

Sashybo...Cool monkey. She needs a mobcap to complete the granny look!!
  • Rather than starting a new thread is it ok to post other sock animals here too?
