Well, I finally made a start on a sock monkey. For someone who is not in any way crafty or arty I'm quite pleased with how easy they are. (Not saying it will end up looking great - just great for me ;)).

Has anyone got any tips on how to do the stuffing. I've bought a cheap pillow and using the stuffing from that. When doing the legs and body it easily went lumpy, is there a special way to stuff the tail that I haven't hit upon yet?
    Thanks in advance.

There's no special way I'm afraid (or at least I've not found it!) just patience. I pass the stuffing duties to my dd as she can do it a lot better than myself.
  • Ive found using a whole lump (enough to fill the whole animal and more!) will work better than pulling bits off and stuffing. So constantly feeding the stuffing if that makes any sense :) For tails I feed it in with a pencil using the blunt end :)

Went into Hawkins Bazaar today and they are selling sock monkey kits for £6  You still need to make it yourself, they just provide the stuff needed. Gotta love mse for providing the instructions and so much more for free :T

I've made a couple of sock monkeys for Christmas presents, they're for older girls so they've got button eyes but I might change them for felt eyes in case they ever get into tiny hands.

I'm also going knit the sockies a scarf cos they look a bit naked at the moment.
    More pics on my blog.

wow avstar i love your monkeys. i think monkeys are addictive.

i've got about 8 pairs of socks waiting to be turned into monkeys. i bought the eyes yesterday so hopefully this weekend i'll get making.
  • I am going to keep my eye out for suitable socks. What length/size do people tend to use?
