Your monkeys are great! While looking for socks today dh asked why don't you just buy a sock monkey. lol I'm like its not the same! I want to make my own. If mine turns out ok, I would love to make my new nephew one. That is, if I can ever find socks! UGH
I love reading all the words that y'all use!!0 -
Sorry, to keep posting.....I did say I have had a couple of beers though......So, if I fold the socks over at the heel, how much sock do I need after the heel? Does that make sense? I am thinking once folded over the ends should be close to even? So, you can understand what I am saying if I folder over the knee high socks the one end would be way longer than the other. Thanks!!0

Yes this thread has gone very quiet. Everybody must have made the monkeys they needed!
Have you got a tutorial that you are using or are you making your own pattern up? If you have only long socks just cut the long part down to the same size as the ankle (crew) sock.
It is satisfying making your own monkeys and it takes practice so keep at it!
I did google crew sock and it came up with a lot of mens ankle socks and the explanation on Wika is they are a heavy knitted rib. (quite expensive I thought!)
Anyways keep to cheap socks imho and keep at it
p.s. there is a good tutorial on google for monkeys.
off to see where abouts in the US you are!0 -

also a cat draught excluder made from socks too:D0 -
I have a tutorial. It is one that I have also seen on here. I didn't buy the knee high socks. It seemed like they were to narrow, like the arms and legs would be too skinny. I paid $4 for 2 pair so that is $2 a pair, pretty cheap. I'm cheap so I won't pay too much! lol
If this goes good I want to make my son one. He is 18 in college. He is a computer nerd. I have to find the dang socks though! Who knew it would be so hard to find socks. Anyway, I was thinking of buying some wire and making glasses because ds wears glasses. But, not sure what else I could do to it to nerd it up. Any Ideas?
From some of the pictures on here I think crew socks are what y'all call ankle socks. Not totally sure though. I will take a picture and show you. If I can figure out how to post a picture.
Also, do you know how to make the little hats out of fleece?
I woke up at 3:55 this morning and could not go back to sleep. So, I am going to take a nap in a bit and then start on my monkey.0 -

well, I am almost done with my first sock monkey! I have to wait to finish the nose because I need pink thread. I started out with my first pair of socks and all was going good, until I got to the second sock. I cut the tail way to fat and it didn't enough for the arms. So, I have to get another pair of socks to finish that one. Then I started on the second pair of socks and forgot to turn the sock inside out and had already cut it. Third one was the charm! lol0
