  • I've made more monkeys, which are going to be xmas presents for two of my brothers, aged 10 and 14. Here they are!

Have lots of younger brothers and sisters (10 months old upwards) but I don't know if I can make the stitching and eyes safe enough. Any tips?

Hi Pieface - they look great!!! The 2 different sized eyes give them a real cheeky look!!!

You could see if you can get embroidered eyes like the patches you buy to stitch on things or you could try stitching them on yourself. Someone else on here had safety buttons which are especially for children and have a disc or similar that attaches somehow to the button to secure it.

Love all of your sock monkeys, cant sew at all myself so will just admire them from afar. Wanted to say I was in my local 99p store today and they had a stand full of bits for making cards on the stand were some of the charms shown above, think it was 8 or 10 on a card so for 99p I thought they were a bargain, not sure if all 99p stores do them but might help some of you.
    Keep up the lovely work.

  • Piefacerecords they are really funky. You can get safety eyes which I use which like Angie said have a disc on the back that once secured does not come off. Bit difficult to put on but at least you know once on they won't move.

OMG! That's me! Woah, that was weird, seeing me on MSE :rotfl: Shame it wasn't a more flattering comment LOL! (I don't mean that personally *Katie*, the prices shock me, too!) btw, I have to add here that it took me a long while to be confident enough to charge that much, but friends have persuaded me that they really are worth it because of the time, and imagination, that goes into them. The thing is, people will pay.

Worth bearing in mind all you sock monkey makers, your time *is* worth that much. How much would you pay in a shop for a plush toy, made in a factory in China? So how much more than that are these amazing monkeys worth?

I confess I have never made a sock monkey, so I am in a fair bit of awe here over these incredibly cute creations. And sewing machines?! You use sewing machines on a sock? Too clever, I can barely use a sewing machine on a pillowcase

Has anyone checked out https://www.craftster.com - I can spend hours browsing on there. You should post your monkeys.
:TProud to be dealing with my debts :T
  • [ps] re. the safety eyes thing, I've done some monsters with felt eyes, which may be an answer?
Not sure how to post a pic, so hope a link is OK

  • Also re the safety eyes, I got plain white 'wiggly' eyes for 15p each inc the back disc and brown gossy eyes for 20p each from a sewing shop in Lichfield just down from the bead shop... No postage either ;)
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.
