Thanks pookiewn, and nuttybabe. Will have a look at both, and then maybe give it a go. Will post a pick of my first sock monkey when he is done.

    Thanks again

My 11 yr old DD and her friends have been making sock monkeys this week (no school- 5 snow days in a row). They like to do all the sewing by hand, although I get the occasional request to stitch the arms or tail on the machine. They love making them, I think we are up to about 10 now!

This was posted before, its a very easy tutorial to follow.

I've been lurking here for a while, and have read most of the forum whilst sewing my monkey! It's for my friend who is rather monkey and bat mad :)

That is so cute. I started mine but have yet to make the arms and ears as I have lost interest. I think it's because I have been sewing it by hand and I hate sewing! :o

I think I may go and buy one of those £15 portable sewing machines (battery operated) from Dunhelm and have a go using that instead.

A reviewer does say that it can be used without using the foot pedal so you could sew away with it on a laptray with your feet up.

sb44 - i had one of them and blew it up on the first sock monkey i tried making on it! i think it also says its not for stretchy fabric so wouldnt be any good for socks anyway.

Thanks Nuttybabe you have just saved me fifteen quid!

A friend gave me an old sewing machine that her mum gave her (she has a modern one), not sure what make it is, I'll have to go and dig it out.

The only thing I know is it has a wooden base surround and it weighs an absolute ton.

that sounds like my mums old one. my sister has it at her house. its the one i wanted but then my mum bought me the lidl one for £60 which is excellent. But her old one was quite easy to use so definatly give it a go. :D

  • I recently bought some eyes from E-Crafts.co.uk, and must say they are great and was very quick with delivery even with the RM delays! :) xx
So much for 'Money Saving' ;)
  • I've just about finished my first sock monkey, except he has no eyes yet as I need to go and buy some googly ones! Let's just say that my sewing leaves a lot to be desired and I didn't think about the fact that the Christmas trees on the socks were doing to end up upside down :-/ I'll just write a little poem for him saying he likes hanging around upside down or something!

Here he is, I'll post another one when he has eyes! I've got to make two more and I'm hand sewing, tiring work!
