Need to go to B&M for ankle socks I think! :)

We have a new B&M store opening near to us - I cant WAIIIIIT for it to open lol :D

  • So is B&M the place for socks then? The one I made above was made with some Jasper Conran socks from Debenhams sale and was lovely and stretchy, but I started one tonight in a cheap ladies ankle sock and the legs seemed a lot shorter and the fabric harder to sew- is there a certain sort of sock that's best.

Also I really want to make one as a mascot for my Dad- who keeps bees, and I've found some bee socks, but obviously the bees would be upside down, has anyone tried sewing the sock the other way and using the ankle for the head?

  • No idea, but its apparently cheap for socks! :D

Sure someone will be along to answer re. patterns upside down.

Ive been meaning to go to B&M for a long time!

  • Hellbells its just as easy to sew upside down. if your not too sure about making your own head shape just fold the sock and draw around the head onto the cuff of the sock.
i do this many times when the socks pattern requires it

i know shelley always does hers this way.

Thanks, I was thinking it should work out that way, means I have much more choice of socks that way :)

i am making an upside down one. actually i am making a few, just need to buy stuffing for them. I found though, the last one i made looked a bit stocky but not sure if it was because of the way i stuffed him!!! But then all mine turn out different anyway!!! :P

I havent found any socks i like in b&m. I find primark, peacocks and matalan the best but where ever i am i will look for socks. the pound shops are pretty good for the knee length ones especially if you only use 1 sock to make the monkey.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I bought some more socks from B&M today but I must have got the price wrong when I posted the other day, they weren't £1.34 but £1.29. :D

All 3 pairs are neon stripey ones, black and turquoise, black and green and black and pink.

Size 4 to 5½ if that is of any use to anyone to give you an idea of the size.

    ;)

  • Ahh Susie that's a lovely idea, my plan was to make one each for my kids for xmas, with this one as a trial, but my daughter has adopted this one now, I think I'm going to have to triple sew all the limbs etc though as they're pretty rough with toys etc, I need to have a look at safety eyes as well as my 1 year old puts everything in his mouth.

I embroider eyes on my monkeys for younger children, that way there is no danger of either safety eyes or buttons coming off.
