I sew mine on the machine so use a polyester sewing thread, which would also be OK for hand stitching. I stitch my seams twice, once with a running stitch and once with an elastic stitch.
Some of the sock monkey books recommend upholstery thread as it is much stronger and they are stitching by hand.0 -
Loving all the new monkeys on here
Lots of housework to do today before I can crack on with more monkeys but I am planning on making a cow print one later called DaisyLittle Miss Chatterbox

Cuddles I love the one on the right too but agree they are very Mr & Mrs to a nice combo.
Kisto I ADORE the monsters. I think they are very boy friendly. If you have time & are happy to share of course I'd like to know a basic start make/tutorial them as I need 2 boy friendly makes for christmas. I don't feel too comfy asking for a tute as the thread went a bit off course so if it's a no go I am totally cool with that.
I have made a few monkeys over the last week, played with the arms & am relatively pleased with them. Will post pics later.0 -
I agree Hogshead the sock monsters are great especially for boys
I've just made Daisy but think she looks more like a cow than a monkey lol!

I went to a craft fair yesterday and a lady was selling sock owls made from one sock sewn like a sausage shape with ears made out by just indenting the middle of the top of the sock. Feet and eyes were made out of felt, it looked really cute
She said she made them because she used the other sock to make clothing for the small handmade bears she made. These bears were beautiful, jointed ones like the steiff ones, impressive levels of creativity there!God is good, all the time
Do something that scares you every day

They sound lovely - I have a thing about owls! I've made lots of sock owls including a sock owl mobile and they are so cute!
Can't imagine making bears I bet they were fantastic. Has she got a website?Little Miss Chatterbox

There is a pattern for an owl made from one sock in the book 'Stray Sock Sewing too'.
I like this book better than the first one as it has some more variations in there i.e elephant, cat, dog etc.0 -
