Sock monkeys!
Comments

Well I've had a very productive monkey making day just making up my 3rd now which is a last minute request for my friend. Her daughter has been rushed into hospital over the weekend and she asked me for a ballerina one. I've only had a few hrs to get it ready so a tutu will have to do. I will post some piccies later xLittle Miss Chatterbox

Kisto I ADORE the monsters. I think they are very boy friendly. If you have time & are happy to share of course I'd like to know a basic start make/tutorial them as I need 2 boy friendly makes for christmas. I don't feel too comfy asking for a tute as the thread went a bit off course so if it's a no go I am totally cool with that.
Thanks. Moola is my favourite. She's kinda cute (in a monstery sort of way)!
I can't really give a tute for the simple fact I made it up as I went along :rotfl:I only use one sock for each monster. My aim with each monster is for them to be as unique and individual as possible. I try to be different and clever with all the parts of the sock. I think once you are practised at making monkeys you realise how the parts of the sock work; so can play around with the remaining sections, after you've made the body.
Whilst looking for inspiration here is a few sites I visited (but as you will see they don't particularly resemble my monsters... but should give you some ideas.
This one is so cute. It's made using felt but could probably be adapted for a sock: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ninacuneo/sets/1089577/
and this one is made using fabric but could be easily done using a sock: http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/revoluzzzionary_monster
Similar to my first monsters body: http://www.monster-munch.com/how-to-make-a-sock-monster/ then just use the parts you have left to add tail/wings/arms etc:T*Thanks to all who posts comps * :j0 -
those sites are brilliant. my friends little boy is having a birthday soon. might have to make one for him!! her kids get all my prototypes!!! :P0

I think the zebra is great Gemsmember
Has anyone seen any nice girls socks with skulls on? I've been asked to make an emo/goth one for Xmas. Most of the ones on ebay are knee length and I don't want to make a large one!
I'm monkeyed out today I managed to make 4 but housework is suffering as a result .Little Miss Chatterbox

I've not seen any skull socks around.... but I've used knee high socks to make a 'normal' monkey before.... I just cut the excess sock off to make it the right length! I've kept the pieces I cut off because I know I could use them in another project at some point!:T*Thanks to all who posts comps * :j0 -
If you use knee high socks, you can make a monkey out of one sock if you have some other plain ones in the same colour as the heel.
Primark etc. sell the plain ones for about 7 pairs for £2 in all sorts of bright colours.
If you have one the same colour as the heel on your knee high sock, then you can use that as the mouth.
Cut the legs the length you want and the bit left over is enough for the tail and the arms, you just need an extra bit for the mouth, hence the heel from a pair of plain socks.0 -
gemsmember - that brilliant. i never thought to do that. i always used a pair and had so much left over!!0
