Pretty sure nobody can accuse me of copying these two - but which shape works best - right or left?

I managed to make another today but still not happy with my arms technique.
have just been looking through blogs, links etc & how some of you are able to get the arms to sit like shoulders (indenting I recall the term) but try as I might to form a space for the arm to sit in it always ends up looking not like I want it. Does anyone know of a tute I can read/view on getting them right?

Hope you understand my jibber jabber.

Bought some reduced socks in Asda yesterday. Some I will have to turn upside down & make due to the pattern so that's yet another obstacle.

I made 2 monkeys for a couple of friends who were getting married and I put sew on velcro on their hands so they held hands (if they have kids I will make them a mini one to put in betweeen!), I wonder if you could use that to make the hands sit right, if they are stuck to each other they would sit on their laps and you could also loop them around things.

I think it would be very hard with any craft for people to not use other peoples ideas, I mean once you put your work out there in the public arena other people can then take that as inspiration. I have looked at lots of monkeys on line and the people who make a lot of them make them look different with little quirks like hats etc but the ones made by people who are new to doing them are individual as they learn to make them, I like those ones as they have character. My first monkey was for a friend and I made it with felt eyes, I then decided that the one with buttons (one white, one smaller black placed on top) for eyes looked best. I offered to take back my friends one and replace the eyes but he would not let me. The ones made for people we love have something else to them I think, people see the time and effort and the monkey becomes a token of your affection for them, that is a very sweet thing I think.

  • This is one of my latest ones, I thought I would get some ready for the winter season, hence the leg warmers.

right, most definitely - it looks friendlier, but don't ask me how I know that, it just jumps out at me.:rotfl:

Think I agree, though I have decided that they are a bit like Mr & Mrs, so may keep them as a pair, and even velcro them together!:D

    Hello sock monkey makers!
I've not posted on here for a while as I am so busy. Not enough hours in the day! :D I see there are quite a few new "monkey makers" joining in. I love looking at everyones creations.

Here's a few of my recent makes:

3 different size monkeys. The tiny ones are so adorable (although fiddly to make). My daughter claimed the tiny one straight away!

    And two sock monsters; Mushi

    and Moola

I love making the monsters. I don't follow a pattern and just improvise. I start by deciding on the head, then use whatever part of the sock that is left to make the limbs/tail/wings etc.
:T*Thanks to all who posts comps * :j
  • Great monsters!!!!
