  • Have just made a baby monkey for a friend who is expecting next week.

Not sure whether to post a picture after some of the comments though.

I just wish I had a pound for every PM i've received from someone asking how I do this/that ..where do i buy this/that etc etc

Altho I do try to help there are some occassions where I dont divulge..

Personally i think the enjoyment in creating a finished product is knowing how hard oneself has toiled to overcome any obstacles
  • Just a selection of a couple I have made recently and Pennib I agree the hand knitting takes longer that the birth itself

pennib - sock monkeys (especially the super sock monkey) are the only toys that my kids have not lost interest in! They HAVE to have them in bed at night and usually are downstairs sharing breakfast in the morning. Its great they so that that but then i think of all the money spent on toys and I should have just bought a few pairs of socks instead!!!! :rotfl:

cuddles - she is lovely! I have made a few baby ones. My faviourite was one with a teddy but I think teddy took longer to crochet than making the sock money!!! :rotfl: not done that again!

Thats the same one i used when i first started. And its the one I tell people who ask how to make them.

chatty - they are brilliant. i love the great britian one.

    he looks brilliant cuddles.

Did you have to make the monkey upside down (if you know what i mean)? how did you sew the head if thats what you did. I have some lovely fluffy socks but when they are cut they tend to ladder so I thought if I make it upside down and sew the legs before cutting (and stitch it quiet alot!!!) they might not. But that would mean the toe bit will be the legs so not sure how to do the head. I hope you understood all that!!! :p

Yep - know just what you mean.

That one wasn't made upside down, but I have done some like that so that the pattern was the right way up.
Have tried two ways. One was to sew a curved shape arounf the ankle end (copying the toe shape) The other was to gather the ankle end with a running stitch. Gives a flatter top to the head, but OK if putting a hat on.
