It is NOT a disaster! I do best when working from pictures, and with fiddly things a big photo helps,so thankyou.
What did he say? well, (blush)...the conversation went like this:
DH (peering over my shoulder at the screen without his glasses)"what are you doing?"
Me "planning to make some Christmas presents"
DH "will mine look like that?"
Me (thinking of my spare socks)"well, when I've finished it will be bright red"
I have absolutely no idea why he laughed in such a vulgar wayI can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -

he didn't think I was talking about a sock monkey when I told him his would be red
(well, he is getting a bit vain and won't wear his specs so he just saw the shape in the photo rather than the detail!)I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
hi everyone!
i'd like to join in on all the sock monkeying - i can't believe how amazing all your monkeys look! they are SO cool.
i've never been able to sew and they didn't teach it at school, but i have my mum's old sewing machine and have been practising today (damn bobbins!) making wheat bags for xmas. so far, so good (well, not bad anyway).
i am the second eldest of ten children, so there's lots of kiddies to buy for at xmas. One of them isn't even a year old yet, and they range all the way up to 23. phew! so i'm thinking the sock moneys would make really cool presents as you can personalise them for all ages and personalities.
Wish me luck, I'm about to get started with some cool stripey socks I got from asda today...:D0 -

Good luck!
And pleeease can we see a piccy when he/she is done?0 -
Well, I finally started my first sock monkey today. Have made, stuffed and sewn the body/legs, and arms, and went back to my sewing machine to do the tail, and the bloody thing jammed up!
Hubby (who has no idea about how a sewing machine works, but took over when I threatened to throw it out the window) seems to have fixed it now, so I'm going to head back to the sewing machine and give it another go - fingers crossed! In a better financial position than ever before (thank you MSE!). Moved back to Scotland and now trying to keep debt-free!0
