so 1 hour and 20 mins and my first complete sock monkey is ready.

I didn't stuff his tail as it is fairly plump anyway as I stitched a good way in. The ears aren't stuffed either for the same reason. The fluffy socks are very forgiving on the hand stitching thank god :D

Thanks grapey ... he will have a pink twin by the end of today hopefully ;)

I am thinking of putting some kind of mouth on him ... maybe using the wonder web and some ribbon? anyone done anything like this? the stitching doesn't show up on the fluffy socks so couldn't stitch one on.

You could always try a line of glitter glue, perhaps? Or something like these: http://!!!!!!/xbzJh I was looking for something more like a toothy grin, these ones are a bit feminine! Or if you want to use ribbon, you could probably weave it through the fluffy fabric (which is usually quite 'loose', i think?) so that you don't have to use wonderweb. Just cos if it becomes kiddies' favourite toy, it might become mouthless after a while.

Angie100 and Shelley3774 - your monkeys are excellent! i'm so impressed at how neat they are.

I know glitter glue would be picked off! by both of my monkeys! (no not the sock monkeys but the real ones lol) them lips are great!!! I am thinking they may well become mouthless after a while but thought they may look better with a mouth?

Fairly easy to make to be honest, although I use a machine but quite a few on this thread hand sew them.
I would say they are ok for young children providing you used something different for the eyes or even made sure they eyes were really well fastened. My blue one is for my son who is almost 6 but I am making a pink one for my daughter who is 16 months old.
