Sock monkeys!

Dumb question Alert!!!
What size socks do you guys buy? I'm a size 8 so they'll be far too big won't they? LOL!
Do I look for anything in particular when buying socks? ie I ALWAYS buy the wrong one when given the choice of 2 items!
I must sound soo silly but I only do paper crafts usually.
Thanks!
Apart from everything Irishgirl mentioned, I've also learnt the hard way to look at the stitching on the reverse of the sock. I bought a pair of diamond type patterned ones from Primark & the reverse was a complete muddle of stitches & loose thread ends..I couldn't see where I was sewing! It was a complete pig!!0 -

lol yes i have quite a few sock monkeys already made that i'm taking with me, i made 25 kits but think i have about 30 monkeys. i did think about adding a pic of a monkey to the instructions but i couldnt decide which one to use also wondered about putting on a bag topper thing but thought it might look a bit cluttered with card having a card topper and all you can see thru the front of the pack is card
thought that once the customers had seen the monkeys on the stall that if they maybe didn't want to part with say £10 for a monkey they might be more prepared to spend less on a kit and make it themselves. I have pre sewn them as i thought just putting a pair of socks in a bag with directings on how to do the whole thing was a bit lazy and also giving away the pattern would mean that people wouldn't have to come back and buy more kits if they wanted to make more monkeys.
i hope they go down well - i have a weird combination on my stall of sockmonkeys and nappy cakes but its only a little place an no one round here has heard of either of them0 -

second that lol ive had a few pairs i loved and thought they would make the most fantastic monkey and when you turned it inside out there was threads everywhere and was almost impossible to even see where to start sewing0 -

Fab thread - these are so cute i am going to make one for my DD who is 3!
But had to ask, sock monkey for a 6 month old? Would you? And if so what alterations (obviously would need something instead of button eyes) would be needed to make it baby safe?
Many thanks in advance!Mummy of 3 lovely munchkins :smileyhea0 -

embroider on the features, dont give it any accessories like scarf/hat and make extra sure that you have sewn everything together 110% go round arms and ears etc more than just once (i normally do them twice anyway) and check that your stuffing is washable god luck and cant wait to see pics x0 -
Errr embroider - erm, i'll try, lol! I can just about use the normal stitch feature on my sewing machine lol - but i'll def give it a go!!!
