  • I've been posting for ages, but only just found this thread.

I am 50 (but 19 in my head) and live with DH of 31 years. We have a 29 year old son, and a 16 weeks old granddaughter.

I took redundancy 6 years ago (best thing I ever did), I have units in an antique centre, and sell on Ebay.

I'm so sorry I have been posting for a little while and only just found this thread!

So I'd better introduce myself.... :j

I'm 36, married with two boys - 4 years old and 1 year old. Originally from Chester but now live not too far from Edinburgh.

I think I've been OS for a long time and only just realised it! Fallen out of the habit of meal planning recently but back onto it again now.

Oh and have found the Christmas board SO addictive and full of fab ideas too! :santa2:

Look forward to getting to know all of you a bit better. :T

    Hiya.

New to this but have been an OS for years, because of my poor wages as a carer for Social Services! I do love finding new ways to spread the cost of living and look forward to getting to know you all and picking up some tips as well as inputting myself!

Single mum of 4, but only one at home now, but may as well be a house full 'cos we are a really close family.

  • I've just found this thread, too, so apologies for not introducing myself sooner :o

I live in the expensive south east of England, with my husband, and two sons, aged 15 and nearly 13, and our cat. Our eldest son has Down's Syndrome. I don't work outside the home, and am currently 'on holiday' from studying with the Open University - my next course starts at the beginning of February.

I can't bear waste or clutter, so OS suits me just fine, but I have a lot to learn from everybody here.

    Hi there !

It is high time I introduced myself – have been around for a while, but keep losing my connection each time I try this long post!

I am 49, and the family consists of myself, husband and 2 cats (one elderly Persian for decorative purposes only, and a young farm cat to keep the rodents down). Sheep and chickens are planned, but adequate fencing/housing is still being sorted out. Oh and there are the bees, of course.

I became OS after spending about 10 years of my working life in less developed countries. No supermarkets; all fresh food (seasonal/local only of course) had to be found in markets and cooked from scratch. The people around had so much less than we can imagine – but they would always invite you and the food, conviviviality and hospitality were just fantastic! Meanwhile back home there are people whinging about the choice in Waitrose or Tesco’s ……

When I came back to the UK I didn’t fit in anymore. We now live in a very quiet and unfashionable part of France, and I still work for the same international company – 50% only, and mostly from home (lucky me). OH is in charge of garden restoration, fruit & vegetable growing, animal care and in this season chopping logs to keep the house warm.

Am over the moon to have found this board, because even in France it takes OS skills to survive on one half salary – I have picked up so many useful tips already! And it is great that there are always some like-minded people around to talk to, any time of day or night.

So thank you all OSers for your support and wisdom so far, and I will do my best to be a worthy member of the OS community

    Ch.

  • Hello, I'm a 26year old research student, and I love this site for when I am waiting for programs to run.

I rent a flat with my OH which I know doesn't make financial sense, but I love the freedom and flexibility of it. My OH and I are polar opposites when it comes to money; he's all 'spend it till it runs out' whereas I enjoy the challenge of being thrifty.

Having been a student for 8 years I have had lots of crappy jobs that now seem invaluable because I learned a bit about the inner workings of car insurance, BT, retail, credit cards and employment agencies.

It's great to find out a bit about everyone, hats off to all the demented mums at home!
  • Hello to every one,
I am a 37 yr old married with 2 boys 12 and 10, a 17yr old cat who has been poorly recently and cost me a small fortune, 1 rabbit, 2 guinea pigs working full time and running a motocross club with about 250 members(like another full time job).
I have found this site extremely helpful with all the tips and easier ways to run a household. I feel more in control of my life at this moment. Also knowing that you are not on your own and there are plenty of you who mirror my worries and woes, makes me feel that I'm not on my own. I dont get much family support My mum died 14 yrs ago and OH family (who live in same street) not very supportive when I need it. Finding all you guys is like having a secret familyof Mums/aunties/nannies...... Dads/uncles/grandpas
    Thankyou all:beer:
  • Hi everyone, just thought I would say hello properly!

I am 34, married to DH and have a lovely little boy who is 14 months. We also have 2 cats. I do some things which could be classed as OS and have loved reading your posts and picking up tips. Hope I can contribute something back :)

We are in the process of buying a larger house so money will be tighter and I need to get better at hanging onto it and particularly to waste less and keep a track of what we spend. I have started meal planning and made an inventory of the cupboards and freezer. I have also signed up to the grocery challenge.

    Hope to chat more soon!

Ooops..............just noticed this thread..........was getting too carried away reading the others. Only found this section yesterday so better introduce myself.

Mary43 (Ignore the number, just my name), wrong side of 60 for my liking. Living in a small market town in Lincolnshire.........very pretty and what I'd call a 'safe' place to be. Everything is around 10 minutes walk away.........suits me. Never was one for a lot of exercise and I don't drive.
OH and myself support out local shops wherever possible..........would hate them to disappear and often can get a good deal from them. Christmas is the only time its difficult and then I resort to on-line shopping.
Only been using computer for 4 years so bit of a dunce when it comes to techno stuff...........can switch it on and 'google', use word and not a lot else...........lol
We are foster carers to teenagers - tiring but very rewarding and they keep on coming back to see us and sometimes its a case of them looking after us. One girl takes me on 'days out', another lad does the garden for me.
Am tracing my family tree...........been at it about 5 years now....got easier with computer and now, with shelves full of ring binders of various branches of the family I've come to a stand still so am looking into the history of where they lived.................more ring binders and shelf space needed !!! (OH never hears me mention that bit!)
I've a totally disorganised brain which anyone who calls can tell from the chaos we call home..................I'm a dreadful hoarder (blame my Dad - he was just the same! Now he's gone I've got all his stuff!)
Been reading Fireflys thread and trying to get my head round ploughing through stuff and getting some sort of routine with housework but I'm not domestic .............never have been and having had a bad back most of the year and more recently torn a ligament in my ankle I've had a first rate excuse for the place being a mess. That said, time to sort it all out !

Well, I've waffled on enough (OH says I should get out more.............lol)

Nice to be hear. It's a fun place to be with some very useful tips.
    Glad I found it:T
