Hi,
Just done my first post on the Family of 5 Shop from home thread. Big learning curve for me, I'm too old to be very techno.
As a war baby, I think I was born Old Style. The hints and tips I learned at my mother's knee have carried me through rearing two children whilst being a SAHM and I weathered 10months of hubbys redundancy.
Recently we have had enough of everything and I think my standards had lapsed somewhat. Also I have been on a special diet for food intolerances which proved rather costly so I've been getting through quite a bit of money each week.
However, hubby is now coming up to retirement so I have been trying to tighten the belt, not easy at the moment with all the price increases on food.
Finding this site has been like coming home for me and it is heartwarming to find that there are all you lovely ladies (and gents) out there doing the same thing. Even after a lifetime of oldstyle money saving, I am learning a thing or two from you all, and maybe I will have something useful to contribute from my long experience.

How rude - I've posted elsewhere and not introduced myself
Have always been old style - as were my mum and my grandma too. There are some os things that I do out of necessity - but most is because I firmly believe that's the best way there is
Only a small household - just me and Wizard Wilf - but with plenty of family that arrive frequently for feeding.
I garden, read, cook, knit, sew and sing. And just about fitted in with that, a bank pays me to be a project manager;)

Hi, I'm Catt, 30 and just moved in with darling boyfriend. Mum has always been fairly OS, but I love the idea of cooking from scratch (better for both of us as we're doing Slimming World) and saving money!. I work full-time but would love to go to 4 days a week if my upcoming job swap allows!0

Hello, I'm Kate, a SAHM with three children DSs 11 and 9 and a DD 2. We live in Paris (hence the name) and things are very expensive here so I'm trying to control my budget by doing OS a bit more. I've already learnt a lot here ans looking forward to getting lots more tips and advice.Saving to pay the tax man0

What another brilliant thread!:T
I've cheated a bit and copied this from the Flylady thread, but realised (like witchmabel) that I've been very rude and just muscled in without introducing myself!
I'm quite new but I've been lurking a while. It takes a while to find your way round this site doesn't it but I've got some great tips (now on cash back CC and planning a few other MS strategies :money: ), but I fully endorse Bellaquidsin's sentiments - feel like I've come home on the Old Style forum.
I currently don't work as I'm a (mature) student I'm in the middle of revision for exams next week, so I'm a little distracted from the housework/meal planning, etc. I thought I was quite good at that stuff but reading some of the inspirational people on here, clearly, I've just been playing at it.
Since I don't work and my OH has been totally supportive throughout this studying lark, I really feel sometimes I let my side of the bargain down by not quite keeping up with things occasionally.
So off I go now with renewed vim and vigour and Star drops to make the place sparkle, especially for Chrimbo.
Nearly forgot - family comprises me, OH, 2 elderly cats and 2 chickens - we eat lots of omlettes.
Thanks all!
WS100
PS - can I ask a daft question - the 'thanks' button - does it count towards a star or something. Lovely peeps have thanked me for my lame contributions, so obviously I do the same. Or is this place just full of lovely polite people - for that reason alone I'm staying... if you'll have me of course

hi ws100 - the thanks button is a nice scheme to show appreciation without filling threads up with lots of thankyous. It doesnt have an effect on stars count as far as I know!Blah0

Hello everyone
I have been on MSE for a long while (since 2003!!!) but didnt post for a very long time due to pressures of home and more recently work. Once upon a time I was a board guide on The Arms and Travel and Student Money but I dont have the time at the moment unfortunately.
I am recently married and now live in the triangle between leicester, nottingham and derby but I am a born and bred londoner.
I am the proud owner of a slocooker and a chest freezer and a walk in pantry so I like to buy bargains, stock up and then meal plan based on what is already in at home.
Husband is borderline fussy eater so I have to base meals around what I know he will eat. I try to introduce at least one new ingredient a week though and it seems to be working so far. I've had a breakthrough with courgette but still not won him over on broccolli! He does make a great chili in the slocooker and also turns his hand to bread and cake baking so he is forgiven his hatred for veg!
I dont have children but I have two cats and I care for my disabled mother as well as working full time.
regards

I too have been very rude!! I have just posted ad hoc and didn't realise there was somewhere to get properly introduced to all you fine ladies and gents! I am a single mum to three children, well two adults and one child now, but they are always your babies, right? I enjoy cooking, reading and writing and also work as a Supplier Liaison on a trading floor for a consultancy. In my spare time I wholly support a "you can look at the dust but don't write in it" policy;)0
