Another newbie wanting to join the fold! :hello:

I'm 23, live with my boyfriend (35 - doesn't feel like such a big gap, honest!). I work full time as a Human Resources Administrator; OH is a fireman.

Really want 2008 to be the year we get sorted financially. Also really want a child by the time I'm 25 (Feb 2009) so that's our motivation! :D

Have been lurking for a long time, but decided I really need to get involved if I'm going to stick to all my money saving grand plans!

Hi all, wishing you all health, wealth and happiness for 2008:beer:

I joined MSE a while a go, but haven't had much chance to post or read for a good few months. But as part of my resolution, I intend to be around here a lot, picking up tips and ideas and hopefully sharing some too. I am married with two children 12 and 8, we live in the far north west of scotland.

Looking forward to getting to know you and hopefully saving some money:D

  • Hello :hello:
Have been reading threads for a while but not really posted much - I'm 33, married with first baby on the way. Got made redundant last year which prompted some money-saving in terms of looking at the bills - managed to get all of the bills down through switching and saved about £35 a month.

I'm starting 2008 by tackling the grocery bill as that's the next big bill that's we can control - have started with meal planning and switching brands for own brand so will see where we end up at the end of the month!

  • Hello everyone :hello:

Like Curly Girly I've been reading these threads for ages, and have gleaned so much useful information and advice that I thought it was time to come out of lukerdom, and say hi.

I'm 41 (eek!), married with two teenage sons and two cats. I work from home and we've just moved into a larger house which has been empty for quite a while and has some very interesting decor! Basically I'm striving for a simpler life in 2008, cooking from scratch etc - and really feel like I've come home here.

    Hello All

I'm a relative newbie but have seized the GC with a vengeance and a full fridge, aiming for a weekly £25 budget for this month. We are me, DH, and twin boys who are 8 in a few weeks. In spite of being twins, the boys are like Jack Sprat and his wife. There's about 3kg weight difference and a fair bit of height in it, although even the sparrow seems to be on a growth spurt.

I have been training and teaching for the past few years but found it impossible to balance family and school and never felt I was doing justice to either. I finished teaching at Christmas, which was drastic given our family finances and DH's determination to get the extra bedroom underway for our boys. Our whole home is so much happier though and I'm healthier too. Even re-gaining a dress size in a few weeks doesn't seem a high price. I do need to bring several hundred pounds in this month however, no mater what economies I can make. (And we have way too many family birthdays, including sons, DH, fab MIL ...)

The experience has helped to focus the whole family on spending and using every last scrap of food and I'm finding a new life-changing thread on MSE each day. Yesterdays was the piggy banking thing. I've been Freecycling for some time but we got a couple of wonderful finds through it at the weekend, which has converted DH to it too. Everyone's so friendly and generous with the tips on here, so thank you all for welcoming me in.
  • Hi, have been flitting arounf for nearly a year now, love grocery challenge, weekly flylady and all the chat on the DFW threads, so much inspiration from everyone. My only problem at the mo is I've got a serious addiction to this site. I'm sure there must be a thread for this somewhere!!
I work part-time, more hours when I can, 2 children (back 2 school today!!!!) OH and cat.
2008, I hope carries on with the huge motivation I have to start living in the black again (I do mean black don't I? this has always confused me). I have just been half heartedly bugeting up until now. but hopefully this is it.... Must go and do something!

  • Hi all!
I'm a relative newbie to MSE but have quickly become addicted! I'm 26 and am married (got hitched last year!). We've just moved to a house in the sticks which we are loving and are hoping that we will become more self-sufficient with the more space that we've now got.
We're currently without sprogs but are working to rectify the situation and the main thing driving us on our money saving crusade is that when we do have kids i'd like to go part time. We both work at a residential college for adults with ASD and our household currently comprises of myself and hubby, 1 dog, 2 cats and 2 bearded dragons.
we're finding the OS board and the DFW boards fantastic help and really enjoyable to read as well!
